    any cotton dyeing recommend?

    Hi all,
I am not sure should I post this thread here.
Actually I want to dye my jacket from the grey/green to dark color like black or dark gray.

Any shop provide this service online?
I am in HK so not sure if oversear crafter accept international order.
And I read some post about DIY, however this is not a good idea to do it in a tiny and crowding environment like HK.

    thanks!

The best dye for cotton IMO is Procion MX.

You can do it in your house with an old pot on the stove.

      definitely use procion
make sure to use plenty of salt
also pick up the special fixative for dyeing black
the blackest black they have is #250

        I've used the Procion #150.
Worked great. I let a cotton shirt sit overnight in a warm solution of dye and the recommended salts. The previously light yellow cotton became dark blue black. I get a lot of compliments on the color.

forgot to add, be careful when dyeing with the stitching, if it's not 100% cotton the dye won't take and you'll end up with contrast stitching

Why impossible to do at home?

Worst case scenario just buy a garbage can/big plastic bin and lay down some plastic sheeting to protect against any splashing and you'll be fine.

I remember dying some tees black back when i lived in Boston and I did it in the tiny tiny bathroom in my apt there!

I'd say Dylon (the machine wash version) is quite good, and a very simple procedure too. All you need is a washing machine and 500g of salt.

Machine washing jackets in high temperatures is never really a good idea. Besides the stitching probably not catching the dye the jacket's shape may also be altered around the zip, pockets and collar. Although I vouch for Dylon as well, I only use it for very basic items like shirts.

If you can't do it in the house. Do it outside somewhere and bring it back in a sealed container to let it sit overnight.

Dylon do a product for dyeing in the washing machine at 40 celsius - not that hot - and no need for salt either. It's called Dylon Wash & Dye - here's an ebay link:

Hi mrmrhing - I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, but the stuff is very easy to use. You just put it in the washing machine along with the garment, let the machine do a full cycle, and then you do a rinse cycle. It doesn't harm the machine. The packet comes with full instructions, I'm pretty sure.

I think this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it... What about wool?

I bought a beautiful dark navy Ann coat made of 100% wool. I haven't received it yet, but I think it would look much better black. is such an endeavor feasible?
