    DIY: Leather Bag

My first attempt at working with leather, so it's not perfect. It's made from buffalo (black) and cow hide (red) which makes it quite heavy, hand sewn and took too much time to make. :D

very nice! since the shape is solid why don't you add a shoulder strap on? how long did it take you to finish this if you don't mind me asking?

Well, i was thinking about a shoulder strap, too... after it was finished :D I've never gotten around to actually adding one but maybe i will at some point.
Making it (not including constructing it in my mind and getting all the material and tools) took roundabout 100 hours distributed over 5 months. Sewing by hand is very slow, especially when there are places that are hard to reach and that you basically have to sew blindly just using your sense of touch.

Great color choice! Love the design!

I agree too! A strap would look great and be a bit more efficient as well!

Thank you :) I'm not sure about where to attach the strap and whether I should use two more of those buckles or go with D rings and carabiners.

Just a thought. What if you had a set of buckles on each side of the bag. Then when you needed a strap you could connect one to the buckle set.
              Could solve the strap issue...

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I think I'll try it. Thanks for your input! :)

Sometimes when a junior designer begins his creations, he try to fill his items with ALL ideas he has. I think it is too much. The shape is great, but it looks like Dr. Evil bag who going to Halloween.

liberty: agree with part of your view but in fact i find that i kinda like the design
anyway, the colors are quite match and it is indeed a nice work

Thanks! Actually most of the design choices were made purely for practical reasons (maximizing space in the bag, making it as indestructible by wear and tear as possible, three buckles to keep it shut tightly etc.), and because I wanted something clean and simple.
Btw. I decided against adding another strap, mainly because it would rub against the sides of the lids and also I wouldn't be able get my hands into the places where I'd need to make the stitches.

Well, i think the basic design is quiet simple. things like the skull and the overall look might refer to the likes of the user. looking at the user name, i could imagine he/ she wants it to look like a Dr. Evil bag

btw: for the first try i think you done quite well.
