Since I'm at work on weekdays, I'm forced to go with the whole "business casual" [+o(] thing. I try to get around it as much as I can.

Today:

Black gauzy fabric l/s button up shirt with 3D chest pockets (there is actually one on Ebay right now, in white) - Ann Demeulemeester

Dark brown herringbone pattern cotton/linen flat front pants - CP Company

Black leather laceup shoes - Fiorentini + Baker

I just have to teach morning classes on Wednesday, so I don't have to dress up too much.

Jeans: Helmut Lang classic 5 pocket

Shoes: Helmut Lang suede/mesh sneakers

Tshirt: Neil Barrett

Watch: Oris TT1 day/date

Cologne: Caron le 3e Homme

Faust, I was already hoping to get that shirt you mention on ebay actually. You recommend it? When you say gauzy, is it slightly transparent. And how is the fit? 23" armpit to armpit sounds pretty roomy for a large.

I think I ought to post my own ensemble for the day:

Dark, narrow jeans from Margiela 14

A plain navy t-shirt from Muji

A red 50s looking cardigan with cream silk stitching along the seams, from Issey

Brown leather loafers from Y's with a rubber sole and a black rubber toe-cap

Very
nice ensemble, indeed.

I
do recommend the shirt, I like mine. The material is not exactly
see through, but very very light, like a cloud. The shirt is
roomy. Mine is Small,
but it could easily be a Medium. Ann usually cuts fairly,
although lately she has been gravitating towards the skinny bandwagon.

Yea,

It's the dreaded E18 error that infects Canons. I'll have to buy

snapping pictures of people on a street. I saw the guy from REM

Pale pink cotton blouse w/displaced front buttons, elbow-length sleeves, stand collar (one half of which is stitched to the shoulder so it stays open), and an insert under one shoulder with a long ribbon extension that loops around the neck (Whew! Oh, and you have to get that camera because your outfits sound great, but as the old cliche goes, a picture is worth 1000 words :)

NDF - those shoes look super-duper. Really nice. What sort of leather did you use? They are quite like the standard PH oxfords, but that is in no way a critisism. My onlt very slight critical comment is that I would personally have preferred if the back of the heel was fully vertical rather than appearing to come out slightly at an angle.

Will try to post pics later... apparently Morton's steakhouse serves free tenderloin sandwiches at the bar from 4-7 pm on the weekdays as long as you're getting drinks!!!!

Probably will have a photo of my gorging myself while wearing:

- Dior Homme Luster microherringbone blazer

- Dior Homme dark gray (strip era) s/s tee with leather epaulets

- Cloak black skinny jeans (erg... currently breaking these in.) The 34's were too big (but perfect in the leg!) and the 32's I have are tight in the thigh.

- Carol Christian Poell diagonal zip boots

- NYC Chinatown purchased $3 black canvas belt.

That cardigan rocks, but the "organic" vibe I get from it make it quite peculiar among the other cloak pieces, I wonder why he never pursued that direction with much consistency, maybe it's something that came from one of his collaborators....

Thanks a lot guys. Laika (hi!) the dress really does fit exactly like a sack lol. Having a very sack-appropriate body myself, I'm not bothered, but I can imagine that for those in possession of more womanly attributes (like, uh, tits) it might pose a problem.

Thanks, everyone. DJrajio, nice outfit! Fuuma, he also did the cardigan in black, which looked much less organic. But, yea, I love that direction - not sure why he does not go where Rick Owens has made such a success (organic + edge).

lol, droogist, the sack part sounds good--it just doesn't look very sack-like on the model. i do have some, umm, attributes, but the sack shape generally suits them--it hints at curves without accentuating.

Faust--that's a lovely piece and it really suits you. Very sensual.

drajio-- i love the cardigan over the stripes! One of my favorite looks--my BF wore something like that on one of our first dates, except the cardigan had a high collar...very nice.

Me today:
Black button down shirt with rolled up, floppy sleeves--Ann Demeulemeester
Black mesh tank (under)--also Ann Dem
Army green skirt with cargo-type pockets in the back and a green squiggly pattern--got it a 1 on G, when they were still open. Anyone remember this store?
Black patent sling-backs on wooden wedges--Chloe

And last night:
Black skirt with asymmetrical insert--Veronique Branquinho
Sand colored scoop-neck sweater with wide ribbed waist band and wide sleeves--Marc Jacobs (I know, but it's nice, I swear)
White tank top (under)
Black opaque tights and same chloe wedges

Yes, it's very nice - same leather as on the shirts and the patchwork is well done, beautiful stitching. It's three compartments, from free different fabrics - it's pretty complicated actually. Can you see the picture in the post?

I'm afraid Mrs. Faust does not share my love for fashion to such an extent. Besides she just started a pretty demanding full time job.

xcoldricex
10-02-2006, 04:22 PM
i always just see a picture of the outside of the bag- so i just see the "patchwork" leather. so it just looks like a leather tote on a string- i'm a big cdiem fan of course and i love the simplicity of things- but on the surface the bag looks not very functional to me. i've seen a bunch of auctions for it but none of them ever show the details of the bag, so i just assumed that it was just a glorified tote.

Hmm, I guess you could say that it's a glorified tote, why not? I think it's very functional in a reverse manner, it's the best bag to carry a few things in, because it's not bulky. The simplicity of it is deceptive - between patchwork, and three different fabrics not ending on top, but folding over into another compartment (there are three compartments), it must've been a bit of work to make.

10-06-2006, 10:15 PM
Yeah, right now I'm really trying to find minimalist pieces, idea from the late 90s, very Helmut Lang. I dunno why, but I feel the whole post-gothic rocker look is getting very tired for me...especially here in Tokyo, its just a saturation of this look and frankly feel a strong reaction to it now. Luckily, I didn't prescribe to the look too much but now I want something more clean, sleek, and austere.

means, but it's a lighter cotton jacket that has a higher collar than a
normal M-65. Not good for the dead of winter, but it's good in chillier
weather.

Thanks, they aged really nicely, scratches on the leather and all. They will stand any kind of beating unlike my other boots wherein I'm too conscious to ruin the fine leather. I wear this in my most rugged moment!

doesn't have the diagonal pockets on the top so i don't think it is- also it doesn't look like it's cotton? must be old season. i like this one much better actually... the added pockets made it look too busy.

The dress sounds lovely. You like a lot of the same things as my girlfriend, I think. She's also keen on Vanessa Bruno and Vernonique Branquinho. I was thinking about old man chic. Do you know anything about the English designer Margaret Howell? She does beautiful women's clothes that I thought you might like, lots of reinterpretation of 40s shapes and traditional yarns and things, but also sexy in a librarian chic sort of way. Her styling is quite non-descript, so you might not get drawn in by shots of her catwalk shows, but the individual items are beautiful, both in fabric and in cut. Not sure whether you can buy them in the states but there's an amazing-looking tweed pencil skirt up on ebay at the moment.

Just like we 've been saying about a lot of designers who work by injecting a new twist into traditional things, Margaret Howell menswear is really disappointing compared to the women's stuff. Especially at the prices she charges! It really does look like Gap. So you didnt miss much.

How are those drawstring Raf trousers from Yoox working out? They style everything on that site as though it was deisgned by Dolce in the mid nineties so they were hard to figure out. But I guessed they would probably be nice in the flesh.

I'm going to the library today, dressed like a twisted-up version of Charlton Heston in Touch of Evil...
Mexican-style white rayon shirt from Comme, worn half open over a black t-shirt.
Grey fleck trousers from Raf, like traditional slacks, but in place of the crease down the front, they have a flap across them that sticks out like a crease.
Yohji brothel creepers with black ponyskin on the front.

Thanks dontbecruel. I like both the VB's a lot, although the selection here is usually pretty poor. Branquinho has been rather disappointing lately, but there are some lovely Vanessa Bruno things on NAP right now. I actually like Margaret Howell a lot--her trousers and shirts look incredibly well-tailored. Not available here though. [8o|] I'll be watching that pencil skirt now....thanks for the heads up! I actually do the "sexy librarian" look a lot when i teach, lol. And old man chic....i just love it. I'm going to have to start toting my camera around for examples.

Faust--Jeffrey is just miserable! I think I might officially hate that store...the male staff did like like my shoes though. [:P] The jacket isn't Matsuda--i lost the label ages ago. I think it was something like Miyazaki (something with a y and a z, anyway)

Library for books or for clothes? You have to specify on this forum! [:D] I figured it's for books, since you did not capitalize the word, but I don't capitalize often when I write informally.

Raf pants are perfect, as all of his pants are (except the showman oversized ones, of course). I'd love to see your Raf pants. The way Yoox styles everything that way is that they operate out of Milan, and if you have ever been to Milan, you won't be surprised at their styling.

I, too, actually felt a disconnect between the merch. in the store and the salespeople who were wearing jeans/shirts, pants/cardigans and flip-flops. They were supernice. That corner is lovely, isn't it?! They have hidden gems like St. Maria di Novella perfumery and actually a big Gaultier boutique (and the Conran shop, of course, not really hidden, but a gem nonetheless). The Joseph cafe was lame though - I hate those places.

Anyway, back on topic - thank, Buckwheat! Her jacket is wool, and I have a blazer the same color (and same buttons) from the same season - we match sometimes! Your brown sounds good - I've been adding more brown to my wardrobe in the few past years.

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and am looking forward to being apart of this community. Right now I am at school so can't post a picture but thought I'd share what I'm wearing today

-Black cotton dress with long sleeve and slightly gathered hem. Knee length. made by my school friend.

-Vintage black silk vest that was taken from a mens tuxedo. The labels are in JapaneseandIdon't recognize the designer. Back is open and it has 6 small front buttons in the front. it can be worn straight but also looks good buttoned up assymetric

-Vintage gold chain necklace. It has two thin hanging chains and and a large pendent that is shaped like a tie. In the middle of the tie is a small cameo.

-Black Tights

-Vintage black shoe boots with slight pointytoe and gathered vamp.

good stuff. i really want to try that poell jacket on- last seasons overlock leather shirt/jacket was a bit too much, but this one looks a lot more wearable.

Agent L and djrajio...both those looks are great. I always thought that the CCP leather jackets were too 'hardcore' for anyone to wear, but that one looks really nice.

Well done, guys. Agent_L, that jacket looks very good on you. I like how the arms bunch up, and how the contrasting stitching... well, contrasts... The twist jeans surprisingly (and unsurprisingly, being familiar with Carol's work) don't look grotesquely misshaped like they do on the hanger, definitely a head-turning piece.

Rajiv, your all black outfit looks great. Which collection is the Cloak coat from? It's hard to see the details.

Today:

Plum wool/raw silk/linen/cotton reversible short coat - CDiem

Gray cotton turtleneck - Poell

Black cotton pants with drawstrings instead of a belt - Raf Simons

Black distressed leather lace up boots (CDiem substitutes) - Moma

Ok, this time I will REALLY try to remember pictures before changing when I get home.

Set off for work at the crack of dawn dressed like some colonial out on the plantation...

Ann D white shirt with alternating columns of fine red pinstripes and tiny red dots.
Margaret Howell cotton knit tie, pale blue and navy horizontal stripes.
Khaki Margiela "safari trousers" with the side-adjusters and high back.
Y's For Men black zip-up boots.

...but it was fucking cold!

Agent L, very impressive indeed. I'm so happy to finally see the famous twist jeans on someone's body! They look totally natural on you--very well done.

Faust--that jacket sounds really good, eagerly anticipating the pictures.

dontbecruel--i consistently love your posts in this thread! I can see why you want the splatter shoes, lol. Very nice colors.

Chinorlz--another amazing jacket! It reminds me of a Branquinho motorcyle-sweater that I really wanted a few years ago. I was way too young to even consider buying it though...

Faust-- I guess that was kind of a random comment. I hadn't really thought about it one way or the other before--it was just a guess, based on the colors....i like to wear the same ones, but I'm blond. Perhaps I was having a moment of slavic solidarity and thought you might be blond also, lol.

Aaah, lol! That's what I thought as well. Yea, Russians = blond, Russian Jews = brunette. Bam, I added to your anthropological knoweledge!!! [Y][B]

Oh, Laika, I wanted that MC jacket so badly!!! Bakla dissuaded me actually, apparently the mens fit was very odd. Actually VBs menswear fit was really odd the first few seasons (not sure how it is now) - it was just oddly proportioned. I love the idea though! McQ has a knit MC jacket this season - I saw it at Barneys (mens co-op), but it's not nearly as nice as VBs version was - it's not a chunky knit.

Today;

Same coat and boots as yesterday in a pic above.

Black cotton turtleneck - Ann Dem

Chocolate brown wool with metal fibers for the slightly wrinkled look dress pants - Haute

Black leather belt - Prada (don't ask, it's from another era)

Black canvas messenger bag with bondage leather closures (finally pryed it away from Mrs. Faust) - Helmut Lang

V-neck knit camisole - Schiesser Revival

Black wool knit batwing shrug/cape thingy - Capucci (I think it's Capucci by Bernhard Willhelm - it just has that look)

It's funny, in my mind black has long ceased to signify menace. Whenever people say that black is dangerous, or that I look like a hitma, I always get startled. I use a lot of black mainly because it's just flattering and multifunctional. In some way it's a very safe color!

Today;

Black heavy knit sleevless cardigan - Margiela

Navy l/s v-neck cotton top - Margiela

Grey with pinstripe waistless cotton pants - Margiela

Same bag as yesterday - Helmut Lang

Heh, I just realized that I'm all Margielaized today - it was an accident. It was going to be a sky-blue Dries cardigan, but as I was leaving to walk my daughter to day care I put a vest on her, and she asked me if I could wear a vest, too - hence the cardigan.

I might say the same of IXOS... [:P] FQ R (R for Roma) is yet another CDiem offshoot (yawn). They have a website with laughably tiny pictures, here: www.fqr.it. It's a menswear label, but this season they had exactly one style of women's boot on offer, which I bought. My husband has the nearly identical men's pair, so now we can walk down the street wearing them together and look like a right pair of prats.

The average objective observer would no doubt find the amount of Chalayan in my closet unhealthy - fanaticism rarely being a sign of robust mental health. I rationalize it by telling myself it'll make for a nice donation to some yet-to be-determined design museum, when I'm old and grey. [:$]

lucky duck! Personally, I think supporting him is rationalization enough for a closet-full, but the museum idea is good too! Oddly, I don't know many people (either virtually or in real life) who wear his stuff. I guess we are the Chalayan girls, lol.

IXOS is generally a little too Diesel-ish for my taste, but the tabi shoes are very pretty--my boyfriend got them for me years ago, when I desperately wanted the Margielas and they were not to be found.

Thanks all. Yea, I don't think I will shorten the sleeves - the extran inch or so does not bother me enough to outweigh the sleepless nights I'd have if I gave that jacket to someone to disassemble at the shoulders, shorten the sleeves, and put the jacket back together. Besides, when worn with gloves, I like the sleeves to be longer than usual.

Faust, the jacket looks great! Fits you perfectly. Did you take those pics by the pool at Lincoln Center?

Today:

Dark denim pantaloons--Stella McCartney

Stiff cotton tomato red shirt with shoestring lacing in the back--Zoe & James

Same tabi slippers

All soon to be covered in dust, as we are packing today!

Thanks! It was actually by the apple store on 58th/5th. My daughter is running behind me there, lol. Where are you moving to? I would guess a new posh loft in Tribeca with the bookcases lining the walls.

Faust, the jacket looks just fantastic - definitely worth the wait.

Lol, droogist, those are exactly the boots that I wanted. Are they even made anymore? I never see any tall ones. Sounds like a beautiful outfit.

Faust, we are moving to West Chelsea, exactly one block up from CDG. [:P] You are right about the books though--I think we are going to have about 40 boxes of them. [:S]

Thanks for the good wishes for the move everyone...it's happening in about a week. Keeping my fingers crossed against any disasters.

Do you mean the High Line? That was actually part of our motivation for moving to the neighborhood. We are closer to 10th than to 11th, so I don't think the construction will be too problematic. It is a cool neighborhood, and it will be fantastic to be in the midst of the galleries. But mostly I am excited about the space. So many areas in the city have become claustrophobic and cloying, and are consequently very undesirable to me. It's so wide and empty and quiet down there, even on the weekends.

Yes, I meant the High Line. Oh, did you get into those beautiful buildings that take up the whole block between 10th and 9th?! Those are desirable. I live in the boonies, unfortunately, south Brooklyn. There are some compelling reasons to stay there for now (such as grandparents = priceless, and cheap rent for a spacious place, ability to have a car, 5 min from the beach, etc. etc.). We may move in a year or two to a nicer neighborhood when it's time for our daughter to go to pre-K; not to the city though, too expensive - we'd probably move to Carroll Gardens.

On topic: DjRajio, looking good - love the scarf (a bit hard to see the jacket, the scarf overpowers it). Casem, a shawl collared sweater is on my to buy list, I love them.

Today (hope to take pix tonight) - piping theme.

Plum wool/silk/cotton/linen short coat with black piping down the lapels and button line - LMaltieri

Black worsted wool scarf - Jil Sander (gotta love her quality)

Chocolate brown wool knit v-neck sweater with acquamarine piping on the inside of the arms and down the sides - Dries van Noten

Dark navy (almost black) wool dress pants with piping and pinstripe effect created by a shade lighter thread(!) - Poell

Black distressed zippered boots - Ann Dem

Black canvas/leather messenger bag with bondage closures - Helmut Lang.

Well, that was a mouthful!

Yes, those buildings. [:$] Right next door to the supremely classy "Privilege Gentleman's Cabaret" and the even less prepossessing "Chelsea Inn," which is clearly associated with the former. Brooklyn sounds nice--how lucky you are to have your grandparents close by.

Yea, the shawl collar sweater is great, it's amazing how much warmer the collar makes it, very cozy.

I like how everyone mixes and matches designers so well. I like the scar as well djrajio, I like how you kept everything else simple and made it the focus. I know it was a little while ago, but I can't get over how nice that Margiela suede jacket is Faust, it fits perfectly.

Do worry about "who" you wear but how your wear it. I've seen many a man in expensive duds that still looked like total shit. Plus, any person that is a "creator" rather than just a "consumer" is a better, more interesting person in my book. People think fashion is all about wearing the latest labels/hottest designers but its really about cultivating your own personal style /a creation process through inspiration.

xcoldricex
10-26-2006, 09:51 PM
i agree. it's really refreshing to see people making their own shit, especially when it's done as well as you're doing it. i like seeing this stuff more than seeing people in expensive, fancy clothes. i myself am looking into getting into the processing aspect - dyeing and other treatments.. and some leatherworking. so hopefully i actually pick it up and start making things. would like to relearn the sewing machine too...

i like the purple by the way

nambla
10-27-2006, 05:50 AM
Thank you very much, all of you. The processing of clothes is the most difficult part I think. I haven't even begun to think about such matter regarding my own made clothes although its a very important thing. especially if you are into vintage looks likepoell Cdiem are into. I want to find a trousermaterial that are black but that i can treat so they look really really old. Like grey-fading. don't know how to pull that off though.. sigh

your blazer looks really tight when buttoned, is it too small?

casem
10-29-2006, 09:03 PM
No, I don't think so. It certainly doesn't feel tight or restrictive when buttoned. If I pull forward on where the button is there is quite a bit of room so I don't think it's too small. Could be the way I was holding myself in the pic, when I look at the mirror standing normal it doesn't pull, but if I pull my shoulders back a bit it does. It's also kind of boxed cut compared to my other blazer, it doesn't exactly follow the contours of the body, so maybe it's more creasing or folding than pulling, I noticed this in lots of the Jil Sander coats this season. I dunno, I hope I'm not just making excuses ;-).

casem
10-29-2006, 10:45 PM
Here's the runway pic, it kinda does the same thing on the model, so I think that's how it's supposed to fit. Anyway, I'm happy with it...

The fit on you is practically identical to the runway pic--and you've layered the jacket over a sweater, on top of that. So I don't think you have any worries, although I prefer the jacket unbuttoned, when its worn over a sweater like that. Looking very good!

Everyone is looking good. Nambla, you look GREAT. So cool that you make your own stuff--no wonder you wear your clothes so naturally.
