I think these are incredible. That wool piece makes the shoes look like someone wanted to make the cozy in order to give the wearer comfort and warmth. Dries at his best, I think. I have to see if I can get these for my wife.</p>

Faust, Mona Moore has those Dries shoes in every size....I have been eyeing them myself. The quality of his shoes is so exquisite! I liked the metallic runway shoes also. The heel is so chunky that it&#39;s almost a wedge.

I want to start making shoes, it is rather interesting that before i even knew i was going to be a designer, iattempted to make a pair of sandals from some scrap i found at a shoemaker shop where i used to live as a kid.</p>

also when i just started sewing, i had a friend who was an excellent shoemaker, he used to repair my sewing machine whenever it was giving problems, </p>

we had (and still do, less now than we once did) some really great artisans in Jamaica when i was growing up, the sad reality was that they were never really respected, as people then had an inferiority complex with repect to locally made products.</p>

this was one of the reasons why i left, as i thought i would never have accomplished the things i wanted to if i stayed.</p>

the irony is that.....not being there anymore i cannot really utilize the skills of the artisans effectively (or at all for that matter) </p>

One day though........one day
</p>

we had really beautiful shoes though, albeit from leathers than were of inferior quality</p>

What about finding good cobblers in NY? Where do you produce your clothes?

What about finding good cobblers in NY? Where do you produce your clothes?</p>

</p>

well, that is a good idea, to find cobblers here, </p>

actually there is one that attends my church that i was planning on working with, but he became ill .</p>

i will have to do some research on this.</p>

the
clothing- 80% of , is produced in my atelier by myself and two other people the other 20% (knitwear)
we produced in jersey city, our orders have been very small, most of it
has been to private clients, we have just began to see some progress
with the wholesaling of the collection.</p>

hopefully it will be
better for FW2007. we are trying to find a showroom for this season ,
but this has been a pain in the arse-son, as the ones that are
interested, do not attract the stores that draws the customer we are
trying to reach, also they want us to lower the pricepoint, which is
not something we can afford to do and everyone one nowadays seems to be
about "good clean american sportswear" (God help us).</p>

enough of that though, as you asked only one question, and i dont want to bore you with my ramblings............

</p>

With the Ann shoes, you are quite right, except for the almost part, they are just ugly. I love Ann D. but those seem to be made for a crazy 80 year old woman who pretends to be a witch in her spare time.</p>

I cannot really comment on whether this is a good season for shoes or not, but I can say that fall/winter shoes are always more appealing to me. I much prefer seeing a woman in a beautiful pair of boots to one in some strappy sandal.</p>

Anyways, the Dries is nice, but I quite like the Yohji...I'm a sucker for combat boots, the mary janes are nice (except I cannot fathom why they are around 900 US!!...and more expensive than the combat boots). However, the description of the Yohji tall boots makes them appealing: </p>

"<span id="contenu"><span style="font-family: Arial,Verdana,Helvetica; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 9pt; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; line-height: 13pt; color: rgb(204, 152, 152);">2 piece boot. Boot goes to the ankle with a side zipper, and top has side zipper closure with braided detail on side."</span></span>

mmm... why am I always liking stuff other people here don't? haha. I kinda like the Ann D shoes this season, as much as I dont really like Ann D in general. On another note, I really like the blue pattent leather Marsell shoes this season. Might be hard to pull off, but the color is great and the shapes are interesting.

kucejoe, I agree about the Yohji shoes--those boots sound amazing! The only thing that bothers me is the pointed toe. [:(] I have noticed that Junya and Comme also do this Western style with their boots often. I love his footwear in general though--last spring he had these very cute plimsolls that I adored, but couldn't manage $400 for a canvas shoe! </p>

The black ones are quite similar to the ones I posted earlier and I must say that in these pics they look a lot better (mostly because the leather looks great). Thought I would attempt to revive this thread....

I was blown away with these guidi boots! I am really drawn to the colour in the first pair: seems impractical, which I love, and would get better with age/scuffs.

I don't know, the front looks like a hoof. Nice in bed and all, but kinda weird for other occasions. Who are these by?

Schadenfreude
09-01-2009, 07:42 PM
i dont mind them looking like a hoof although i do mind the way they curve up. im sure its for comfort while walking but i would much rather that part be flat.

fadetogrey
09-02-2009, 01:18 AM
I might warm up to them the more I look at them, but to me they are too hoof-like (I had a horse once). Though I shouldn't talk, because I've been fixated on Margiela's tabi "hoof" for a while. My boyfriend thinks they're horrendous, but I don't dress for him, now do I? (I have to remind him)

There hasn't really been a lot of shoes I've gone nuts over this fall. I'm trying to focus more on practical less-trendy shoes than previous seasons, when I've gone a bit shoe crazy and bought shoes on impulse! Though thigh-high boots are tempting me this fall...

I know these aren't very interesting, but I love the colour and the fact that they're snakeskin and look like they're shedding. I guess it's something about the skin looking "alive" that I like. And the pale lilac would be nice with black.

http://cache.net-a-porter.com/images/products/48270/48270_in_dl.jpg

But these Margielas are my favorite this fall (as I just bought them too) because they are really comfortable, walkable, but still a bit interesting due to the heel shape.

galia

I'm not feeling louboutin anymore, something about the proportion seems off to me now, but I love the skin

I also used to lust for the margiela tabi "hoof" shoes, but I tried them on and you need to have very narrow and straight feet to wear them with any degree of comfort. this is not my case, so one grail less for me

(also, Faust, you probably found out but the cork is I think actual cork, anyway it feels so to the touch. I almost bought the boots version, but had second thoughts and then they didn't have my size anymore. I'm not heartbroken, but they do look fun)

i actually think ann did that concept best, for some reason i always think of haider as following ann in footwear and rick in clothing concepts. i've had discussions with anna of mona moore about this. rick owens also did a similar concept before he found his wedge niche. to me, ann and veronique seem to be most successful, if not the originators, of new ideas (at least of this bunch). i also prefer the way ann added the waffle sole and the exaggerated round front end on her version, they were the perfect balance (and kinky as hell).

dries is another innovator and he never keeps it the same each season, always seems to have a knack for tying the shoe in as an extension of the garments. the man is brilliant when it comes to femininity and sexuality without one overshadowing the other.

This whole debate is nothing but wish-thinking. Men dress much worse than women, period.

merkuri
09-06-2009, 08:45 PM
i dunno, i find many women in nyc and of course, LA, who couldn;t dress themselves without elle or vogue or a SITC dvd handy. plus, when women fail at dressing themselves, they fail spectacularly. men usually just bore me to death.

Faust
09-06-2009, 08:58 PM
These blanket statements are really useless. Let's move on, please.

merkuri
09-06-2009, 09:02 PM
fair enough, and not trying to stir the pot, but didn't you just make a blanket statement that men generally dress worse than women?

Faust
09-06-2009, 09:05 PM
Yes, and it's a true and equally useless statement.

merkuri
09-06-2009, 09:09 PM
then doubly fair enough. anyway, i have always lamented that women have seemingly far more lower-priced but decent options for footwear. i would say IMHO that Margiela probably offers women (and men IME) the largest range of well-made and well-designed but generally somewhat practical footwear. the louboutins of the world just seem more men's (gay and straight) fantasy objects than anything that could be worn without being costumey.

merkuri
09-06-2009, 09:45 PM
i suppose i was just using the name as a generalization of seemingly torturous uber high heels. was poorly stated I guess, but there has to be a more comfortable but stylish alternative. i guess i just feel bad for women wearing them, maybe needlessly.

it's common sense, all the handfuls and handfuls of boutiques/online retailers (seven newyork, paris texas, reborn, browns, antonio, LVR, why-lip, polly, to name a few) sell (often sell out of...) some of the best womens clothing to women who buy them. some not who you'd assume would be the target market, but none the less. its a big business even for the dark stuff for women as well. the most obvious proof is in the industry itself, go to your favorite designer at paris week, they'll be lots of ladies decked out.

ill go looking through my archives and post some of my favorite womens shoes when i get a chance. i contemplating buying the hourani heels lately. very minimal and chic.

No idea, sorry, and his website is not very helpful either. The work that I've seen by him is very theatrical, often bordering on the fetishistic (which I also associate with trashy), and I can't say that I'm a fan. On the other hand, there is a certain delicacy in his treatment of difficult materials (feathers, lace, etc.) that makes me suspect he is probably quite talented.

Thanks laika, that's what I figured from what I saw by him. I guess I'll just have to find out if I can get him to do what I want and how much it would cost. Some of his feather pumps are gorgeous, but yeah I agree on your take on the fetish/trashy aspect

These are cute but the thin ankle strap supports all the weight of the wooden sole, and therefore leaves the skin on the back of my ankle completely raw. it is very painful, so I rarely wear them. I considered selling them but they are the only shoes I have that go with this vintage Givenchy dress, so I have to keep them in spite of the pain

So, seasons after these Balenciagas were released, I finally caved and bought myself a knock off. However, for integrity's sake, here is the original. I have this irresistible attraction to hoof-like footwear.

(I'll be wearing mine without the harness)

i have those too and prefer wearing sans harness. more subtle that way (lets face it the design is strong enough)...added benefit is that i enjoy the looking at my husband eye to eye for a change. they are iconic for a good reason.

The problem with the wide foot beds is that most women don't have feet that big. Its ok on my boots but I cant wear any of her sandals because my feet just won't stay in them. I don't mind it on an aesthetic level, but practically it makes no sense.

It does if you are a woman with wide feet. Mine are not insanely thick or anything, but most shoes I really have a hard time breaking in because they are way too narrow (especially italian shoes for some reason), and once I do they kind of lose their shape. So I can definately see the appeal of the width

It may be a specifically belgian trait though, I don't know...

[rolleyes] im quite over the open boot with straps scenario as well, if you already have the laced version (which i prefer to these) than this is very repetitive... and i dont think they necessarily work with a wedge. i am curious to see the ones with the leather flaps over the front. kind of wish she did a cross between the triple laces and leather layers thrown in that fold around.

i blew a gasket when i saw the marni show, i adore the whole thing, it has ebb and flow that cc hasnt keyed into for a while and the sultry colors were the perfect presentation. even though i dont usually sway toward polka dots the way she did them was so nice. not so crazy about the middle of the show but the beginning and the end, well, it was just that for me. havent liked marni shoes or jewelry for a couple of season but those red ones, they're on the list.

genevieveryoko, not sure about the covered version but those are the ones im most interested in too. at least i hope the wedge is wide not like the spring 07 ones. maybe if the leather is an insert it can be wrapped different ways, that would be fun to play with.
