The definitive thread.

Carol Christian Poell, an Austrian designer who holes up in a studio in
Milan's Naviglio district where he quietly designs an ultra-niche, cult
label that he doesn't always produce and only shows to the public when
he feels like it.

Carol Christian Poell, born in Linz in 1966, lives and works in Milan,
Italy. After having been trained as a men's and a ladies' tailor in
Vienna (Michelbeurn), he studied fashion design at the Domus Academy in
Milan where he also founded the production and distribution company
C.C.P. Srl together with his partner Sergio Simone. After having
presented his first men's collection in 1995, he developed his ladies'
collection from classical elements of traditional menswear three years
later. The distribution network for his articles of clothing and
accessories, which are quite extravagant in terms of production
technology, includes more than 40 dealers all over the world.

You can add "Safe" as spring summer 2005 in the collections list :)

xcoldrice, it's definitely helpful for me. I seem to be a bit
late to learning about Poell, and in the past few I have been searching
the internet for more information. Thanks for the links, I'm sure
they'll be great reads.

Yea, the link function takes a little getting used to. You have to paste the link twice; in the typepad, and then again after you click on the link icon.

I tried on the most amazing pair of pants when I was in London, at The Library. They were completely reversible - one side was grey cotton, cut like jeans, and stitched with that thick signature thread. The other side were black wool dress pants. The fly is removable with buttons on both sides. It was one of the most intricate pieces I have ever seen.

!!! but you didn't get them! were they upwards of $700? i assume they are this season's?

oh no, the link thing is problematic when you're trying to write many links in a row. it bunches text together even if you don't highlight it. so after i thought i finished the first time, i ended up having three links instead of like 10. so i had to go back and manually do it through html. i don't know what the deal is with the system. i tried fixing it through the system trying to unlink text and relinking- but then it would just add the old link.

Also, the first thing that comes to my mind is Cousin Itt from The Addams Family.

On a different note, great compilation of links, thanks.

Isaw some CCP items here in Hong Kong. The only thing that sticks out in my mind was a pair of jeans with the material twisted around the legs.. they seemed interesting, i wanted to try them on to see the effectbut couldnt be bothered cause they seemed really tight and they would be a hassle to take on/off... anyways they cost like HKD9000 USD1170... so i wouldnt have bought them anyway...

I went to Atelier yesterday to check out the jeans (and other things). They are extremely long - I don't know how a person under 6ft could pull it off without major tailoring. Also, because they are quite volumnous, you'd have to be really lanky, I imagine. They had this black deer leather jacket (it's in the new slideshow) with white stitching, goddamn, it was beautiful. Poell is a real master.

I also so Amadei bags - they were very nice - I liked the harmonica effect. The hardware is actually antiqued silver. I was scared to ask about the prices, brrrr....

BTW, Label Under Construction coming to Atelier next season.

Man, I don't mean to bust your balls, but time after time I have come across you selling high-ticket items days or weeks after you bought them at Atelier and such, and there is always a story behind it. Why are you so fickle? Would it not save you a lot of emotional anguish and overall hassle to just not buy the things you cannot afford? Why not simply appreciate them without having to buy them? We all want things we cannot afford - I understand that, but why go through with these purchases if you have to let them go and lose money on them? I am asking in good faith, not trying to be mean. Anyway, I hope it works out for you, and feel free to post the jeans in the classifieds - maybe someone will help you out.

reply appreciated faust. it really isnt a financial situation when it comes to selling them. i purchase items that i love, appreciate, and sometimes as an impulse. i have alot of ccp items and i sell items that i dont necessary need. i love each and everyone one of my ccp items and sometimes find that i have a surplus of them. for instance, if i havent worn an item for a long time and find that i do not necessarily need it in my wardrobe or have to sell it for personal reasons than i am willing to sell the item. same goes for newly bought ones as well. if i have items that i have outgrown in regards to appreciation andwillingness to havewhether it being a day or a month i will sell them. i really dont see whats wrong. people buy things all the time and return them for reasons only fit to themselves. i bought these jeans because i really liked them the first time i saw and tried them on. i still love them. i just dont seem it necessary to keep them when i can sell them to add to my sisters wedding present. i have enough money but why not sell them if i want. you only get married once and whats worth more... making your sister happy on the happiest of days or wearing these jeans for my own sake. i can sell alot more ccp items if i wantbut i do not want to. i want to sell these. its not about gaining or losing money. i purchase ccpitems for the love and creation of them. i can sacrifice my happiness for my sisters or any other reason i see fit. i dont know why i am really explaining myself to you. its no concern of yours but i did feel that you came on a little strong. i do not want to come off asan absolutearrogant and smugbrat. i am only a college student and work hard for everything that i have. i hope that i did not come off as a person whois over jealous and boastful, i am simply explaining. i am sorry for this very long reply and for numerous systematic spelling errors. it is very late.

Bellapietra, I sent you an e-mail via ebay inquiring about the exact measurements (especially the waist) as i'm not completely familiar with CCP clothing. I may pop a bid in for your jeans.... this will require me to liberate my closet of some other clothes. I'm trying to operate on a one in one out policy.

Anyone knows where I can replace those screw in button on the jeans? I took mine to the dry cleaner and they freaking lost the top button! I tried to go to Home Depot and hope to find something similar....but no luck.

Got to love those leather...especially the wine color leather coat. Yummm....

Do those tape constructions hold well in heat? i.e. through dry clean and such?

Anyone knows where I can replace those screw in button on the jeans? I took mine to the dry cleaner and they freaking lost the top button! I tried to go to Home Depot and hope to find something similar....but no luck.

Thanks for the photos Faust.

You are welcome. I'd expect the tape to be something that is industrial grade and therefore all-kinds-of-stuff resistant, but who knows. I'm sorry about you losing the button!!! I will ask the guys at A next time I'm there.

Although a lot of these accessories are interesting/cool, they can DEFINITELY be made at home. I've thought about making the metal wire necklace. Just need a long length of metal/steel wire, a pair of needlenose pliers, and some time.

As for the Amadei bags... I'm going to be experimenting a bit first with fabric to see the pattern needed in 2-D form to create the 3-D bag. Then I'm going to find some high quality leather, maybe re-oil it myself and then make myself an amadei bag. Sure, it may not be as ultra high quality, but for a fraction of the price, it'll be worth it hahaha

Damn Albert, get out of my head! [:O]

I was thinking of doing the same exact thing for the pleated
bag! (I was planning on buying some muslin to figure out the pattern
this weekend actually). Trouble would be sourcing similar leather,
thick and waxy-looking. Ah well, best of luck with the project, hope it
comes out nice!

haha, we're on the same wavelength! Yes... hmm, I should put my muslin to some use!

I think the leather wouldn't be terribly hard to find (at least something comparable.). be it online or in a good fabric store like Mood in NYC... something like that.

I'll get to work on it at some point... My Galliano women's pirate jacket is still not done (just did the muslin, then cut out most of the pieces, haven't sewn it).... too many side projects keep me from going back to it hahaha

Agent L

when he designed the pattern, he made the front and back panels exagerated or offset so when the side seams are sewn together they end up twisted.

L'eclairer
is definitely the place to go for Poell. They have several stores
in Paris - Johnny knows which one is best. As far as Antwerp -
well, I could probably write a book on shopping there :-).
Definitely hit up the Ann Dem boutique, Louis, and the Dries van Noten
boutique. In Paris, there is also Colette, obviously, as well as
the newly opened Rick Owens boutique and the CDG store. I don't
really like Paris dept. stores...

"only" haha, that's a LOT more places than I expected!

I wonder what CCP's total production of pieces is every season considering there are probably 10 stores in japan as wel that carry the line and then 2 in the US....

Suddenly it's not as exclusive as I thought it was.

i put a preliminary stockist list in the original post.

well.
i'm sure most of these places don't carry much more than 5 pieces.
only a few places actually have a substantial amount of poell.

......and he posted a few of the shops more than once.

Chinorlz

oh good call. I wasn't even paying attention to the names at all.

So what's the total store count then for the world? 17 or so?

You're right, chances are most places don't carry but a handful of pieces. I wish the little pamphlet with ( X of X made) came with each and every item.

i will definetely check out ann dem, louis and cdg, thanks... i also heard about a store called box 18 that carries undercover and number nine though i doubt the prices will be reasonable.. what kinda stuff they carry at louis BTW?

Louis stock rotates pretty often, I think - I've read reviews of them carrying Ann and Dries, and I haven't seen any the two times I was there (maybe because they opened their own store by now). They have a lot of cred, since they were the first to stock Antwerp designers in their infancy. It is definitely the place to go for Raf - he has a good relationship with them. When Raf took one season off from fashion, he did one capsule collection exclusively for Louis called Raf Simons Archives (I'm lucky I happened to be there and buy a piece). It also has a good stock of Margiela. It's a small store, but well-edited.

If the photo does represent a recent show, does anyone know the season it represents? I'd be interested in knowing whether Carol did the bee-keeper nets prior to the recent Thom Browne show.

the bee-keeper nets prior to the recent Thom Browne show.

This
seller just uses any and all pictures he can find. I would not be
surprised if this is not a Poell show at all. The presentation
looks like N(N) SS07 show, actually.

i was just wondering. did poell do any other "runway shows" aside from the mainstream downstream?

I've wondered about that too; this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230044935955&ssPageNam e=ADME:B:SS:US:1) has a photo of a model in CCP, but a straight runway show seems like such a conservative diversion...

If the photo does represent a recent show, does anyone know the season it represents? I'd be interested in knowing whether Carol did the bee-keeper nets prior to the recent Thom Browne show.

He's done a few other interesting shows... presentations in a butcher meat locker, a show that was a "prison escape" (I think done in tandem with a models-in-cages show?). A while back he was doing some sort of showing of his designs in a bunker in the middle of nowhere essentially... I think one of the guys on tFS went to it actually, but it was mentioned on that thread over there....

OK a bit of a rant from me. Not really at CPP, but the feckin Library. I was there in the summer and asked them to send me pics of LMaltieri when it came in, left number and email. Nothing. Phoned them about a month ago to get pics of CCP, said they would do it, nothing. Phoned them again this week, gave them a different email address in case they'd got the other one long or lost, gave them a direct phone number, said they would do it and ........NOTHING. Jeez, I'm practically beggin them to sell me some really expensive clothes......Bear in mind that i bought a leather short from them at full retail , so they know i'm serious. It's just shocking service. I don't actually think they really know what they're doing actually; they're no where near Leclaireur or, from my brief experience of it, A, in terms of expertise. Spring shoes: Karlo didn't offer many details. The spring collection has both boots and oxfords. The ball+chain carriers were a bit precious, but sort of endearing. The shoes were expected to be in the store in February and to sell for around 1700$. I didn't get a sense of the material, but the styles were generally similar to his earlier collections -- diagonal zip boots, slightly pointed toe. (It was tough to discern details from a 5x7 photo.)

the blazer with the peak/notch collar is pretty neat, and of course his coats are just awesome! The slight pagoda shoulders... so cool!

I'm really interested to see those J-pants worn since they're supposed to give the twist effect. Love to see how it is pulled off. There must be so much work done on those in terms of choosing fabrics and such since with weak fabric, you'd just end up with a big bundle of fabric at the ankles of each leg!

They carry some really nice poell jackets (overlock leather) and other interesting stuff. The pricing makes them impossible for me to buy anything; but at least looking at those pretty pictures makes me happy. I'll only dream...

This is the first online store I've seen that carries Poell items in multiple sizes. The boots are relatively affordable at around 1000 euros, if anyone is rich enough to grab a pair :)

The new CCP stock is here!! Here are the pictures of the two new CCP leather jackets. I cant decide which to get although I'm leaning towards the overlock one... problem is that it doesnt have the white stitching, but I suppose it'll perfectly complement my black ccp twist denim also w/ black stitching. The overlock is a matte soft calf leather whereas the fencing jacket is a stiffer more glossy calf leather. Overlock is $4700. Fencing is $4900.

I was also thinking that I should perhaps wait for the new M.A.+ leather jackets to come in. I dont know if A. even ordered some, but we'll see... I dont wanna blow close to 5K only to see a nicer jacket come in a couple of weeks later. Or should I simply invest the money in other goodies? What do you guys think? Oh jesus those jackets are absolutely awesome. K, you were right. The fencing one is the shiiit!!! If Carol only added the black overlock to it then it'd be perfection (even moreso than it is now).

I love them both but you really gotta step back and realize that you can do a LOT more with $5k than get a single leather jacket. I've almost taken the plunge myself several times but had to catch myself. $5K is a LOT to spend on one item. Get a RO leather for less than half that price (about $1500 via LVR like my roommate got his). Not as crazy as the CCP leather jackets but a really beautiful and solid one nontheless. Leaves you $3500 to do a lot with. You know that $3500 can get you a shit ton of stuff even at full retail.

If you were talking about $5k for say the Linea leather jacket, it'd be a different story. Carol essentially reissues the leather jackets every season (with some adjustments each time of course) and they do show up from time to time on yahoo and other locations whereas Linea leather jackets are damn near impossible to get.

I say save your money K and get something else for the time being while you wait for MA+/LUC to come in. LUC knit prices should be in the $500-800 range each so you'll at least get more bang for your buck. Plus your purple label leather jacket fits you damn well and you seem to really love it as you wear it a lot.Personally, I like to spend money on something I think is lacking in my wardrobe and wait until a good deal comes along for pieces like these CCP leathers (as lovely lovely lovely as they are)... be it color, a type of clothing (pants, buttonups etc.), footwear (need more good footwear, less sneakers) etc.

__________________________________________________ _______________________

Figures that the week after I go to NYC is when they get their CCP in.

I should give them a call and ask about the curved legged pants. I REALLY wanna see how they sit on the body. That and the white parka are the two pieces I'm really after this season.

CCP wishlist for the season (realistically):

- curved leg pants (if they actually drape the way I think they do) in gray or off-white

- off-white hooded parka

- off-white boots

I just have to settle on the fact that I'll only be able to (rather... only willing to allow myself to ) get one of those two leather jackets on sale (from one of the stores that does do a sale).

I think this season's CCP is a good opportunity to add some (off) white to my wardrobe. He does it so perfectly.

... I'm also working on convincing my girlfriend to allow me to buy the Linea travel bag from IF hehe. Let's see how much we get back on our tax return as that will be spending spree money! The parka and pants will be the first buys. Gotta call the guys at A tomorrow...

Damn, just called Atelier. They didn't get the curved pants in just yet... just the leather jackets, a couple taped tanks and a white shirt is what JoJo just told me.

I have no idea about the pricing for either but they're both on my list! I'd probably pay up to $900 for the pants (provided the drape how I think they do...) and $2000ish for the parka. I know I'd get a lot of use out of both since they're off-white (in that perfect dirtied shade that Carol is a master of) and very cleanly finished. Goes with just about everything.

I weighed the cost/benefits, and I think that getting this one special jacket is definitely worth more than getting a cdiem leather shirt and a rick owens leather jacket. One of the reasons I got it is because of its stiffness and yet it's also light enough to wear it during the summer. As you may know, a stiffer leather jacket will look more beautiful over time (it'll mold over your body, and will leave a greater imprint of the owner's personality) as opposed to a soft leather one, which is one of the reason I chose this over a ro's jacket.... I mean, it's a long term investment after all.... Another reason is (crudely and frankly) due to its exclusivity- rick owens' jackets wont be hard to find (or a style similar to it) whereas this fencing jacket is not only super unique, but it's also one of the only 28 that Poell produced around the world (hahaha, what a shrewd and clever piece of marketing isn't it?).
I also asked Gentry questions regarding the fit since the jacket doesn't look at all fitted from the arms, but he told me that as a rick owens medium size, he couldnt even fit it the size 46 because of how slim fitting the jacket is.
Anyway, I'll see how it fits when I get the jacket tmr and I'll post some pics wearing it once I break it in!

hehe, Gentry rockin that shit.

Man... they sold the 48s already eh? that's what you ended up getting Khiev? Funny how he cut these small this time around. The overlocks from last season were cut big! I fit the 48 easily and likely could have sized down.

maybe I'll be convinced to pick one up in europe where it'll be sliiightly cheaper hehe.

Can't wait to see photos of when you receive yours! I bet it can't arrive soon enough for ya mate!

Yeah, Gentry told me they sold out of the 48 when I requested for a picture of him wearing it. I'm a small in a rick owens so apparently the size 46 is the right one for me, which also happens to be the only one that A. ordered. Will post about the fit when I get it soon!

Everything they bought - two types of leather jackets, a white button up, and reversible tanks with taped seams.

Their Yohji Yamamoto buy is absolutely amazing. I'll have to go post it in SS07 thread.

Same policy unfortunately... although during their blowout sale they put a select few (select few!!!) items on sale. None of the really amazing stuff though. The cool pieces were carried over.

Khev it sounds like you have hypnotized by the sales guy.. lol. You know everywhere I go who carri CCP gave me the same story and that rings the alarm bell for me if it is a mass collaboration of the designers and retailers. LOL... Neverthelss I have to say better buy it now then when it hikes up to 10,000USD I guess... :-)

I have both CCP leather jacket and boots. I have to say I love the boots VERY MUCH. Leather jacket is so so.. Cdiem is better and more limited like Albert said. Actually my all time fave is still early Dior Homme pieces. they are classics.

Congratulations on yoru buys though. I remember when I splurged on CCP leather jacket.. Oh man.. took me a VERY LONG TIME to recover... but nevertheless, looking forward to see a photo of you wearing it!!!

Hot! Care to snap a photo of your ccp jacket ionn?

Well I suppose I was hopeful that the leather jacket would fit me the way I think it does in my mind. I was willing to splurge $5K anyway at Atelier anyway (they would've given me store credit if I'm not satisfied with the jacket) whether the jacket fit me or not, so their basic intent of wanting to extract as much cash from me as possible didnt work on me since I felt like I had nothing to lose. If it didnt fit, then I would've simply waited to buy some nice ccp pants, some rick owens, cdiem, and an M.A.+ leather jacket.

The days that I used to be persuaded by salesman are well past me now- those were the days when I used to buy $500 gucci jeans and $700 shirts because of the brand name and compliments from the salespeople. As you may have guessed by now, I've already sold most of my luxury brands junk on eBay except for a few truly well made pieces [Y]

I think everyone here is aware of all the schemes and compliance principles that salespple come up with- in fact, I even wrote a thesis about it in my seminar class last semester. Besides, I trust Gentry, and it's been a loooong time since I've resold clothes that I've bought in the last two years.

So it came to no surprise when I received my ccp leather jacket just a couple of hours ago that the jacket fits me exactly the way I wanted it to fit me, and how Gentry said it would...and the leather is sublime.... it's so light, stiff yet comfortably supple. I'd still choose this jacket over two cdiem leather shirts any day. Seriously, wow.... I cant describe how cool this jacket is in real life, the attention to detail is amazing, I could take so many snap shots of them...

Anyways, I've posted some pics in waywt...

My god man, that CCP jacket fits you damn near perfectly!

Mad props!

Speaking of items fitting, I think I've decided that my RO black leather jacket may be 1 size large on me (ie- I need a medium). It's always felt a little "puffy" in the torso, but maybe it's just because it's padded.

Seeing yours makes me really truly deeply regret not bidding on the one that popped up on Yahoo Auctions...

Again, sick ass buy. I hope to acquire it or the overlock in the next few months or so!
