Creative Director Alber Elbaz is to be awarded the Legion of Honor, the
latest designer to garner the prestigious French prize.
Elbaz will receive the award on January 25, the Thursday sandwiched
between the upcoming French haute couture and men's ready-to-wear
collections.
France?s Minister of Culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres will
present Elbaz in the Palais Royal, the traditional place for such a
presentation for creative types. Everyone from Jack Nicholson to
Valentino got their ribbon in the grand and gilded salon of the
Ministry of Culture on rue de Valois, the heart of the Palais Royal,
arguably the world?s most beautiful apartment building.
Elbaz, widely regarded as one of the half dozen designers who
influences global fashion trends, will get his award at noon on that
day. Already this year, Donnedieu de Vabres has presented Valentino and
Odile Gilbert, who to many is fashion?s most important runway hair
stylist, with similar awards.
Under Elbaz, Lanvin, a venerable label owned by the Wang family of
Taiwan, probably dresses more red carpet stars than any other major
fashion house ? and without giving away the clothes for free.
Since being appointed in 2001, the Israel-national Elbaz has made
Lanvin?s show into one of the chicest presentations in fashion
anywhere.
Enormously popular for his panache, lack of pretension, honesty and
exceptional talent, Elbaz?s award will be very well received in fashion
and in France.
