    Mens Hats

Ok, different from the beanie thread:

I have been interested in headwear lately (I shaved my head recently and it gets pretty chilly up there). Do any of you wear hats (not baseball caps, or knitted beanies)? Can you post picture of ways to wear hats that work well (esp. for men under 50)? Any info of the history of hats? The only two people in my cultural consciousness concerning hats are Tom Waits and Joseph Beuys.

    thanks

    Hey Seventh,

I personal don't wear hat (I got too much hair and wearing a hat is too hot for me [:D]) but you can check out CA4LA.

      WHO WE ARE

Weave Toshi is Japan's leading manufacturer and retailer specializing
in hats. We have 17 shops in Japan and 1 in London. We care about, and
produce, hats which are high in quality. CA4LA is the original Japanese
hat brand. 70% of our merchandise is made and designed in Japan.
Weave Toshi developed a new concept of 'head apparel' against the old
formality of the conventional hat shop. This concept has enhanced hats
as an essential part of fashion, and changed the meaning of the hats
      existence.
Our staff of many designers, reflect their individual personalities in
the creation of unique and various styles of hat. Upon entering our
stores you will soon realise this is not a conventional hat shop; each
store has its own eclectic mix of antiques, furniture and curiosity's.
The hats are placed against this enchanting backdrop adding atmosphere
      to your shopping experience.
Through the process of production, distribution, and sales of just one
hat, many people are involved from all over the world. The world has
rapidly become closer due to the popularization of internet; however,
we strive to give our hats a human feel and we hope this is
      communicated through our product.
Wearing a hat should be a worldwide pleasure. Making a small change in
one's life is an important element towards happiness. We believe that
it is our role to spread this message not only in Japan, but also to
      the world.

Our brand name 'CA4LA' (Pronounced as
Ka-shi-la in Japanese) means the head and also the top In addition to
our own designs, we also carry imported items and items that we have
collaborated on with international artists, designers and musicians.
These items are well received in both Japan and overseas.
We would like to further expand our international market; and in 2006
we opened our first overseas' shop in London. This success is
developing business internationally. We also have an online shop
      available for your convenience: www.ca4la.com
CA4LAs focus is on fashion, and we believe that our customers have
great trust in us. We are constantly challenging convention with our
hats, and we will continue to do this in the future.

you can check out more here. And do check out the "daydream" collection....the presentation is pretty cool.

hmm...that's good to know deuxmille. I haven't seen any in person. Just read about them on magazines. I guess I shouldn't recommend something that I don't really know :)

/\ I admit, I don't know. I only wear beanies. Did you like Ann's bowlers? She actually produces them.

Well, the only style of hat/cap that I have worn (and been relatively happy with how it looks) is an old black no-name short brim military hat (looks similar to this), but I am very tired of the look and it is a little too casual for some things I have to do.

In my minds eye, I wanted something traditional that could be worn with a certain disreguard (could get beat up and still have a certain style). I was thinking about fedoras (actually I not even sure this is the right name for the hat), like T. Waits here. I like the short brim, but know nothing about what to look for in a hat like this. Also, I am not sure how it would look with a shaved head...

Faust, do you mean these bowler hats (I fear I would look Amish in them, esp. around where I live!):

I did like the slouchy hats from fall 07 Ann Dem. But again you might need flowing rock star hair to pull it off...

Can people post other options or images? Many thanks.

/\ yep, that bowler, and I agree, may make you look Amish. And lately Amish have not fared well with the rednecks...

Despite their association with surf/skate clothing, I am still a fan of Brixton LTD for hats. They make simple Fedoras similar to the one Tom Waits is wearing in that picture and some other cool headwear.

Inspired by music, culture, and the people who surround them, Brixton is the collaboration of three friends who wanted to convey their lifestyle through unique products. The clean, classic design of the Brixton collection has a modern yet timeless feel.

Although I admit, I've seen a lot of really douchey guys around campus wearing fedoras lately, so I'm not really supportive of the trend.

I rather like this hat! I wonder if I would actually wear it that much though. I feel like hats are usually something people wear all the time and develop as their trademark and I'm not sure I want to go there, my trademark being my hair haha.
