At the suggestion of JohnFG, I created a card case using a bit more of the calf leather I have. After thinking about it some, I came up with the idea of a hook-eye closure that runs through a slit in the leather and clips in and anchors itself to the "eye" portion of the hook-eye that is hidden in the interior of the front of the card case.
It thus retains a lovely minimalist silhouette.
I've made two (one for myself and one for JohnFG) and it's going to be a piece I carry with me when a wallet isn't practical!
Leather is such an interesting material to work with. It's stretchy and quite durable so you don't have to worry about such things as fraying and thus different techniques and ideas can be applied to leather that otherwise wouldn't be as elegant if you were trying them on fabric.
