A Magazine #6 - curated by Veronique Branqhuinho

Laika, rejoice! This should be cool. The cover is gorgeous.

    http://www.modenatie.com/www/FFI/MAG...zine/index.htm

    WE HAVE THE PLEASURE TO
ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF THE NEXT ISSUE OF A MAGAZINE .

    AFTER MARTIN MARGIELA,
    YOHJI YAMAMOTO, HAIDER ACKERMANN, UNDERCOVER?S

    JUN TAKAHASHI, MARTINE SITBON,
THE NEXT CURATOR IS VERONIQUE BRANQUINHO.

In the late 1990s, Veronique Branquinho took the international fashion
scene by storm with a very personal take on femininity and elegance,
her signature strongly influenced by the complexity of the female
character. Underpinned by subtle references to film, music and art, her
    fashion offers a unique sensitivity.

This year Veronique celebrates the 10th anniversary of her label. A MAGAZINE #6
has turned out to be a festive edition, an intimate anniversary present
from the designer to you. Veronique insisted upon compiling a warm and
very personal issue, a genuine reflection of her world. Not a glossy
fashion publication but a magazine that allows us, for the first time,
to take a glimpse into her life. She does this in her very own way:
affectionate, playful, seductive, but never too explicit, always
    leaving room for open endings.

Very cool, looking forward to this. Still can't get over how great that Yohji issue is, although I'm sure Branquinho will provide some good content.

Thanks, Faust! Is it out yet then? I need to get down to St. Mark's....[72]

Really excited about this one...VB has such great taste. I liked this quote of her's from Cathy Horyn's blog:

?I like to preserve the good things, I like timelessness and rituals,
feminite du bois, le premier rouge, la mer and the full moon.?

...I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

Thanks Faust, I am looking forward to this one. I suspect this should be one of the better ones, the last one from Martine Sitbon was a little ordinary compared to the rest.

Now whether I should wait for this to pop up at Kinokuniya or order it online...

And that's a great quote, Laika.

You are welcome, everyone. I am not sure when it's out Laika, but calling St. Marks is a good idea. Looking forward to it as well. Good fashion magazines are so few and far between these days - everything bores me to tears.

anyone know what these typically retail for?

i might be interested in picking it up, but no way am i going to pay 30 euro just to get a magazine shipped to me. i could just get one of the daido moriyama books i've been meaning to pick up for that price.

^ You're probably looking at around US$20 range. Kinokuniya sell them here around $A25.

A while back I ordered a bunch of previous editions from bruil & van de staaij and it came out to be about US$20 each - the Yohji and Margiela editions I really enjoyed.

$25, unfortunately. It's pretty expensive, and I definitely won't buy it without thoroughly looking at it first.

EDIT: Hey, laika. If it's out yet, I am positive Collete will have it. You should buy it there (I mean, that's what one buys at Collette anyway)!

Woof, $26.95 for the Sitbon issue, so it may be as high as $30 for the new one. Definitely get it in Paris, laika - if you can (hell, get one for me while you are at it :-)).

It's out - just got mine in the mail today.

At first glance, I can't say that I'm all that impressed. It's more or less as I predicted - lots of moody photographs, little text. I've only just flipped through it, though.

Moody photographs are to be expected though, no? Lack of text is disheartening, however.

Checked this out - very disappointed. Almost no text whatsoever. Photos can only bring a magazine so far.

Am I the only satisfied purchaser so far? I bought it a couple of days ago in the Veronique shop in Antwerp and I was thankful for the lack of text--I hate wading through the half-baked theoretical verbiage that visual artists vomit about the concept of their work. Instead this gives you a real picture of the designer's aesthetic world: the cars she loves, the people she loves and a couple of great best-of photoshoots of her work. Plus a few odds-and-sodds, including some sexy David Lynch photos.

I found myself thoroughly taken up in her imaginary world. It is basically a re-imagining of the Roxy Music album covers from Stranded through to Avalon, but I won't hold that against her. And I was surprised how much I loved the clothes actually. I always thought they were too kitsch for me. I went out the next day and bought some Branquinho stuff from a consignment shop (the prices for the beautiful current collection were way beyond consideration). Luckily the mens' gear doesn't change that much from season to season. I got a camel-coloured wool bomber jacket and a trademark patterned ski chalet sweater.

Oh, and her boutique is the nicest shop in the city, in my opinion.
