    Hey guys,

Its been awhile! Hope you all are staying cool and looking good while doing so. Making a quick trip out to NY this weekend, anyone know of any interesting happenings/parties?

    Would love some suggestions!

yeah, im coming to new york in a couple of days and need some record shopping advice...
i won't have much time so i need the end all to all record stores of nyc....
to put it in perspective, i normally shop at amoeba in l.a. which carries tons of stuff.
so i need something on an amoeba, giant size level....
is there something similar to amoeba in nyc????
-i am looking for noise. minimal, ambient etc----( keiji haino, matthew bower stuff, trente oiseaux sounding stuff, lowecase, francisco lopez, asmus tietchens, etc.)
any help would be great! thanks...
oh, and actually i'll be buying cds too, so a huge cd store that carries stuff most people don't like would be perfect.

Oh man, it's gonna be hard finding something that compares with Amoeba!

What you'll find for the most part is a lot of smaller record stores. Due to high cost of rent etc, you may even find more off Manhattan. If you're not looking to dig for a gem/bargain then I'm sure many people on here will be able to suggest something for you!

Good luck and have fun!!! I miss the days of digging for 45s. I used to be a BIIIIIG funk and breakbeats collector and I'd spend weekends going through thousands of 45s at a store. I'd start at one end of the store and just slowly move my way to the other over the course of days... I've got a few gems in my collection to show that the dusty fingers paid off hehehe

Other Music (www.othermusic.com) is exactly what you're describing. They're on east 4th street, reasonably close to Atelier.

other music is the best record store in nyc. doesn't have the sheer volume as amoeba, but has a lot of good avant garde music. another suggestion is dom prurient's hospital productions store. he'll have a whole slew of noise records. this is probably more up your alley.

We could just start giving directions relative to the store, assuming that it's the first stop for everyone on this board that's visiting NYC.
