Do you have a soundtrack for life?

what do you you listen to when you shop for clothes, for food? when
you walk down the street, when you work out (if you do), when you ride
on the subway? when you have sex? do you pick certain audio for
specific occurrences? do you have a soundtrack for life?

do you mean like an album, kira, or something narrower/wider? if it's an album, than at this point of my life i don't. i used to though - the pretty hate machine, the downward spiral, and the fragile were all at some point the soundtracks of my life. i think when i grow old, something like "the best of leonard cohen" will become my soundtrack.

well i guess it could be or not. sorry if that is vague...maybe there is a collection of songs that kind of travel with you throughout your life, that transcend trends and styles. maybe it is one musical score by a musician.

I think mine is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. It seems to have stayed in my life in a very connected way like no other piece of music has.

But then, I am also thinking about you were to think kind of your daily life in terms of a movie perhaps and there is the visual of you walking down the street, etc. what would the background music be?

So maybe the thought has two parts- what is that one piece of music that exemplifies you from within, and the other is how would you score your daily activity? I am not sure if that is any clearer...[76]

Interesting and widely varied so far. Redman, Nine Inch Nails changing to Leonard Cohen, Mogwai, and my Beethoven.

Somehow I feel that for mine it is able to express something that perhaps I cannot, or expresses something extremely satisfying. Do you feel the same connection?

the last time I did all of these things I listened to these albums

you shop for clothes: The Scientist - Heavy Metal Dub

for food: Cex - Exotical Privates

              when
you walk down the street: M.A.N.D.Y. - Fabric 39 (probably number 39 who knows)

when you work out (if you do): Scorn - Stealth

              when you ride
on the subway: Jen Wood - Jen Wood EP

when you have sex: SND - Makesnd Cassette

do you pick certain audio for
specific occurrences: To an extent yes, if I'm doing things that require a degree of concentration or school related I will usually choose something very simple and with as little vocals as possible. Same goes if I'm putting music on for people when they're driving. I've noticed a pretty strong correlation between hectic odd time signature high BPM music and shitty/angry drivers.

do you have a soundtrack for life: Yes, but it's too long to fit on one CD. Needs editing.

what does everybody put on when they have guests over?

Igor Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring / Joy Division: Unknown Pleasures / Miles Davis: Bitches Brew / Echo & The Bunnymen: Ocean Rain

Four selections that have managed to stay with me year after year for nearly 2 decades now.

Cool, been listening to this the past week a lot. I love it.

I have no idea what my soundtrack for life would be... but I love listening to God is an astronaut - the end of the beginning when I'm studying, working, relaxing, sometimes at low volume while I'm reading.
