Designers/Brands You Want to Love but Can't

I was just thinking of something browsing YOOX, so I'd thought I start the topic. Do you have any designers or brands that you like, you'd ideally want to buy their stuff, but for some reason or other can't bring yourself to love it? I have several, namely Martin Margiela and Jil Sander. In general I like what they both do, but their clothes for the most part just doesn't seem special enough to buy at retail, they make a ton of stuff that results in over-saturation, and so on. Margiela's stuff does often seem like high end Banana Republic, even though there are plenty of interesting detail and fabric quality that obviously sets it apart. Still, I buy my Margiela on YOOX and at Century21. Same for Jil Sander. Good quality, but there is so much of it, and it's mostly just suits and shirts, so I start yawning after a while and just walk away. Do you guys experience a similar feeling about any brands? For any other reasons?

I'd say Dries is that designer for me. I think his colors, textures, and prints are awesome, but everytime I look at his clothes in person, I just find that it really doesn't match my personality.

Agreed, Dries has become that for me as well. It's all just Ok. I also would like to love Alexander McQueens menswear, but a lot of it is also not for me. Although I may pick up a dress shirt with piping this season.

That's funny you mention that faust, mmm do a lot of boring pieces as does js. The key is to filter all the nonsense and find the key pieces which outshine most others hands down in my opinion. I don't look at the collection as a whole but rather how many pieces I would buy and those tend to be the rarest from both of those guys.

When I was at A last year I did admire most of ccp/cdiem on the racks but wearing all black is boring for me, to me color is more interesting along with ways of wearing it but they have to be the right hues and . I like the decayed aesthetic on some pieces, but not all. RO stone washed good don't do anything for me for example. I love the one pair of carpes I have but that's because I can mix it with cleaner pieces in my wardrobe which I love to do, not any particular "themes".

Hate to be regurgitating the same labels but Dries and Jil Sander definitely make the list (although there were a couple of great JS knits last season). I'm not going to say anything about Paul Harnden making this list so please don't give me guff for this, but Dior is sitting at the top of my list. Maybe it shouldn't be cuz I really have no desire to want to love it either. *shrugs*

/\ that's what I wanna hear (referring to mesh) [Y].

I know what you are saying about MMM and JS, but I need to find that key.

Definitely has to be Yohji. It never looks good on me, but I would love to be able to pull off the whole over-sized suit/gangster look... And CdG - although most seasons it's warantless - I just love Rei's style so much.

Raf was almost that guy, but even this season there's a few pieces that I am seriously considering picking up. I think I'm sold on the rain jacket with zip-off sleeves. Seems every season I can find a few pieces of Raf that I'd buy despite his inconsistency.

Curious if Libertine is a label any of you have gotten into. Some of the pieces I've seen are hand finished and very well made, but I can't get passed all that heavy embellishment.
