    What Are You Drinking?

    What are you drinking right now? Wine recommendations, cocktail recipes, good bars, nice whiskeys, etc...

    The best cocktail I've had recently is the Amaro Julep at the Pegu Club in NYC. It's something like 2 oz of Amaro, 1 oz of Appleton dark rum, the usual julep recipe, cracked ice. Great stuff...makes a very flavorful, minty, balanced julep that settles your stomach.

          A bottle of Lagavulin should be in everyone's bar at all times. Oban is good too.

                  earlier this summer when i was feeling it, i was drinking ROSE, mostly the mineraly by the sea variety....</p>

                  now that this summer has become about emo stress, i've switched to the rothkoesque picturesque "guinness and hoegaarden" mix like the spanish might do. the drunk hits faster and its quite tasty. fittingly, i coined this drink "the sad nod".

                  One wonders where it will end, when everything has become gay.

                        Lagavulin is great. I prefer that 15 year old Laphroig though - peaty and strong like the Lagavulin but with a much more pronounced finished. Its like drinking a camp-fire. But better than any scotch I know of is a bottle of vintage 1988 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill Grand Cuvee Champagne. It tastes like the blood of a unicorn.

                          { Little Italy }

                          2 oz rye whiskey
                          3/4 oz sweet vermouth
                          1/2 oz cynar

                          prepare and serve as you would a manhattan (stir with ice until properly chilled, strain into a cocktail glass, and garnish with a maraschino cherry preferably luxardo brand)

                            Made a bowl of Captain Radcliffe's Punch for a party last night -

                            Muddled the peels of four lemons with a half cup of sugar, then squeezed in the juice of the four lemons, stirred and strained. Added a half-bottle of 1997 Climens Sauternes and a bottle of Ferrand Amber cognac, then chilled and diluted with 6 cups of water, as per the recipe.

                            Delicious - although I'll probably add slightly less water next time.
