    Haltbar

Don't know if you guys are familiar with that label,
but imho it's one of the most interesting ones these
days. Haltbar is a single company from Berlin runs by
Kathleen Koenig since around 2001. Also she used
to do a collaboration with Kostas Murkudis under
the name: HALTBAR MURKUDIS, which is quite
    famous.

    Some short interview:

How would you describe your customer?
Haltbar: People who have created their own style over the years. People who are self-confident about themselves and their style. People who are conscious about their personality through it. People who want to wear clothes that underline their personality.

How would you describe your creative process?
Its a very conceptual approach. To research, especially in work-wear, and adapt, and redefine pieces for fashion.

How would you define contemporary fashion?
The creation of something that has a contemporary as well as a durable and long-lasting style.

    More on the Haltbar website:
    http://www.haltbar.de/

And quite ironic video performance, which says
something about the context of the label ;-)

I own a pair of black pants from them, they're the best pair I've had. Great fabric and fit.
As for the rest of the stuff I've seen, I don't think its that special.

uh...looks rather average to me...actually too average
And through their parting lids there came and went
Keen glimpses of the inner firmament

that's the point actually. the ostensible averageness is the
most interesting thing about that label, i mean if you have
a closer look then you realize how analytical and well made
that clothes are. the simpleness of that stuff is just awesome,
since it's not "sweet" or over designed, without any decorations
(the only one could be let's say a pocket in a different place then
usual on the shirt or very strange color of a wool sweater and so
on), rather very cold and raw. but their clothes always have the
best fabrics (but mostly different kinds of cotton then silk or
cashmere - i think it's quite important for their philosophy),
truly fantastic, sharp cuts (in a Helmut Lang way of thinking
about proportions) and always are less or more hand made...
also the styling on their site looks very berlin-like.

            I don't like that. It's interesting because it's average?

There are one million brands/lines out there that use good fabrics but are average. That's too easy to me. I'd hope for something more... something more innovative and creative. This just reeks of laziness to me.

sure, in general you are right, but it doesn't pertain to
that particular label, hence as I wrote it's not only about it,
it's just the point from which they start their design process.

oh sorry, didn't get it, no i am not, i am just sharing my
thoughts about the label, since as i said, it's an interesting
vision of a german workwear fashion, and still not so
known apart from some europan fashion magazines
such as purple or placed... , that's all.

I think the collection was not properly described to begin with - What they are doing at Haltbar is no more and no less than a wardrobe of modern, generic staples of the Jil Sander/Helmut Lang purist/minimalist school, such as a well-cut Chesterfield in heavy weight moleskin cotton or Austrian emergency Loden, the perfect Parka with detachable lining or a pair of tailored trousers with references taken from authentic german workwear, from the fabrics to the fabrication.

The clothes are definitely more utilitarian than they are expressing an obvious 'fashion' statement, just as much as a lot of Jil and Helmut clothing was in fact modelled around army surplus and officer's clothing - extremely durable in quality, sharp and sober in expression. It's clothing design stripped back to it's most straight forward, pragmatic expression.
