    Interesting Costume Designs in Films

I hope this is the right forum to place this in and I hope this isn't a double.

What are some of your favorite costume designs and who are the designers behind them?

Personally, I don't really care too much about period pieces. I prefer the costume designs seen in sci-fi films. For example, some of my favorites are:

    Jean Paul Gaultier's work on:

    City of Lost Children
    The Fifth Element

I also loved the designs in:

Blade Runner (Roy Batty's coat is my favorite)
    Alien
    Eden Log
    Equilibrium

What are some of your favorite films to watch, specifically for the costume design?

        Yohji for Takeshi Kitano's "Brother"

particularly Tadanobu Asano and Ittoku Kishibe (the ridiculous leather coat w/ all the armaments underneath) in Katsuhito Ishii's "Sharkskin Man and Peach-Hip Girl", but everyone has a certain swagger in that film

and Leon Lai and Michelle Reis in Wong Kar-Wai's "Fallen Angels"

                The Matrix!!!

...or not. When the Matrix was "hot" we had a couple of morons changing their name (Zkorpion, Kryzzar and so on), wearing really cheap leather coats and using that Nokia cellphone. And the sunglasses. Wearing them all the time. All the time. I hated it.

Just saw one of those guys in the local paper in the newborn babies section. He looked normal now, but they named the baby Morpheus. I cried and laughed at the same time.

chanel and evein for reisnais's last year in marienbad.
hands down, the most stylish film ever.

the costumes are elegant and beautiful in themselves but
it's really with the glacial camera work that the "style" quotient of the film comes to life, not just because it is the formal vehicle
that frames and observes but above all, it is style personified - the
very ethos of pacing and movement.

i like eiko ishioka, whose work i first noticed in 'the cell', but she did costumes for dracula, and tarsem singh's other film 'the fall', etc. she's done some runway shows too i guess, i haven't really researched it much. it's very costumey, which i love.

Not original at all but what Ola Hudson designed for David Bowie in The Man who fell to Earth has always inspired me.

Well then maybe check out The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover. Didn't watch the full movie, for the plot and atmosphere was just to intense for the ppl I watched it with. But the costumes are awesome...
