Well seeing as this is really different from country to country..

Here in Switzerland things aren't that good either.. Lots of people losing their jobs and still more to come. Banking confidentiality being harshly criticized all over etc.. I read an article about the present situation in the newspapers just yesterday and the main approach to the problem was the statement that the actual "cutback" or what you wanna call it is supposedly finished (Don't know if this is only for Switzerland or global) and now the main "rebuilding" part has to take place until probably late 2010. However I cannot really deliver a judgement since I'm a student and not in the same position as you kunk but over here I've got the feeling that a big part of the emotional "depression" is still to come where as the smaller businesses which have made it this far without suffering from liquidity issues should also make it through the crisis until 2010.

It could have been a lot worse. Right now I'm studying and living at home, so it doesn't really affect me much, but I'm moving to Stockholm in a few months, and I'm afraid the financial situation might make it quite difficult to find a job. I have a good one here in Copenhagen, but I know from my fellow students that companies are reluctant at hiring at the moment. On the up-side it's going to be way cheaper to rent a flat, as prices are dropping like a stone. Speaking of which - if anyone has some contacts in Stockholm I'd be very interested to hear from you! :-)

As an architect (and partner of a small firm) things are very difficult right now, since january i've worked in more than 15 projects (some of them even with approved budgets) ranging from small to big, but so far all of them are in stand by due to several reasons from scared investors to the goverment getting in the way.

it's hard to even get a low-end job these days here.
                          Basically no one is hiring.

Things are pretty bad here.Speaking of architecture, graduates here have resorted to applying for jobs in McDonalds, the upside is my countrie's first American Apparal store is opening at the end of the month, their scouting hipsters in the street, renting hotel lobbies for open interviews, putting people on a trial basis. They have been interviewing since December and havent opened yet.Milking it....swear it was Irelands Next Top Model.
