SZ pet designers (and some others) in Vogue France - august 2009

As requested by Faust and some others, here is part of the big fashion issue of Vogue, where they do one look per designer to represent what the coming season is supposed to be all about. I didn't scan all of it because it's massive, but I tried to make a sort of relevant selection. If you would like to see another designer, ask me and if it's there I'll add it. Keep in mind, it is going to me mainstream fashion mostly

Photography : Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinood Matadin
Styling : Emmanuelle Alt, Joe McKenna & Carine Roitfeld

    Yves Saint Laurent

    Rick Owens

    Chanel

    Junya Watanabe

    Lanvin

Ahem, I don't know why RO is so much bigger than the rest, but whatever

    Comme des Garçons

    Dries Van Noten

    Isabel Marant

Hermès (horrible styling, I quite liked the actual collection)

    Jil Sander

thanks so much, galia! How do you find the issue as a whole? I haven't had a look at it yet.

we should try to guess who styled what.

i like the comme and dries images the best, and i like the hair/makeup in the Yohji one, especially.

Thanks, galia. Looks like lots of fails. That Nina Ricci gown sure is beautiful though.

Nina Ricci has done some pretty cool things this season, she has a leather jacket I wouldn't mind owning

I thought the issue was really good as a snapshot of what is going on right now. Most things aren't my cup of tea, but it's a good summary of the current trends. I found the styling 75% appalling, but it is extremely hard to do interesting total looks, and I usually don't like them. The whole fashion story almost reads like a series of ads because of that.

I like the Yohji and CdG pictures best, and I thought the Karl was funny which is why I included it (but I don't care what anyone thinks or how lame it makes me look, I like Karl)

there were a few more "dramatic" gowns, like an alexander mcqueen, I might scan those tomorrow if I'm bored

thanks for the review. I'm a bit fed up with French Vogue myself, particularly the ever increasing span of Emmanuelle's stylistic tentacles. This has been lamented at tfs quite a bit, particularly the Balmainification of Isabel Marant's recent collections!

              I like Karl too.

Seriously, the whole Balmain obsession is getting more than annoying. Decarnin is like the Lenny Kravitz of clothes

i know hiphop has become fashion, but i'm waiting for the day when fashion is becoming hip hop, so that we can see a designer release a shirt that disses another brand. *prints shirt that says "Fuck Balmain"*

                    Balmainification is a word now?
let us raise a toast to ancient cotton, rotten voile, gloomy silk, slick carf, decayed goat, inflamed ram, sooty nelton, stifling silk, lazy sheep, bone-dry broad & skinny baffalo.

I love Jil Sander. 80ties power woman.

yohji and cdg are beautifull aswell, cdg model is shalom harlow right?

I'm less impressed with dries and junya, I somehow feel a more subtle treatment would be fitting.

I quite like the Margiela one.

And yes the Jil Sander pic is great in terms of overall set up beyond clothes to props.

The YSL one sucks, it's too direct a reference to the work Bourdin and Newton shot for the mag back when it was good.

I agree, it's very referential, even self-referential. However it was hailed as a perfect example of an assertion of the identity of the vogue brand. I think in a world where everythink looks alike and is done the same way (more or less), it is considered a good thing to scream in people's faces "this is what we're about"

I thought it interesting contextually, not so much in itself, which is also a problem
