There seems to be a lot of concern over the toebox -- it is, in my opinion, what makes his designs fairly unique. His toeboxes are rounded and bent upwards, and in that sense fairly non-standard. This is less noticeable in the boots, and more noticeable in the derbies, where cordovan will seem to hold the "curve" the most.

The shape of the shoe though, seems to offer a fairly comfortable fit -- I wear mine with insoles as they fit fairly tts, if half a size large and they would be fine with or without the soles.

Received the Backzips today, and after an hour of wearing them (plus some Obenaufs because Seattle weather is terrible), much (if not most) of the take-off-ramp has been removed. The toe is still upturned, but not nearly as dramatically.

i just went through most of the interesting stores in sf yesterday and I think the standout piece was really the layer-0 horse bomber. It is cut pretty impeccably (and i suppose fairly traditionally) and fits tts from what I can tell but the horse is some serious armor. It's nicely finished with an interesting triangle of some sort of loose weave hemp/canvas lining. The cut looks quite plain in simple pictures eg: pnp's pic:



but fits slimmer in person. (for reference I tried on a 48 and I'm a 44-46 and my fit was far better than that pictures, i think the heavier material doesn't necessarily photograph well as far as fit goes)


And this is after handling some ma+ and devoa over at archive so...

Also felt the canvas blazer, and its this wonderful nubby texture that is kind of awesome. I would compare it to some of Zam's fabrics or perhaps something experimental. Completely unmeant for skin contact but god it is this great texture kind of like paint ripples peeling off oxidized metal.
