Maybe it's because of the styling, but I cannot overstate how ugly I find this collection; all I can think of when I look at this is sterile and numb robots.

I (think I) understand what he is trying to do - to hone his signature with these futuristic materials, but I don't think he has mastered them. Everything looks just... awkward.

looks even worse than the "super minimal" ss11 jil sander collection.
                      this isnt balenciaga
and nicolas can do better than that.

A couple of the skirts are okay and I don't mind the color palette but overall it seems to be a disaster.

how is this NOT balenciaga?!! this is FULL of ghesquière favorites. the popping cobalt blue and orange accents, the 60's futurism and cuts, the hi-tech materials, structured navy uniform inspired jackets, skinny pants, accentuated capped shoulders, color-blocking, piping, heavy structured knits....

again it seems i have to disagree with everyone. this is very much balenciaga (the balenciaga of ghesquière obviously) and strange and lovely. balenciaga is the only 'mainstream' fashion brand i fully respect. they are selling a shitload of bags to be sure, but ghesquière still brings it to the collections. in fact, i'll stick my neck out and venture so far as to say that this is MEANT to be 'awkward' - and challenging to the wearer maybe in a similar way that CCP is, even if the esthetic choices made to achieve this are very different. if you have ever worn a lot of balenciaga i think you would know what i mean. you kind of have to fight with the clothes which gives them a sense of drama.

PS. Could someone please rename some of the women's fw 2011/2012 (balenciaga, rick...) threads to just that: 'women's fw 2011/2012'?

While I appreciate the juxaposition of bright colours and structured materials Ghesquiere style (especially in his f/w 2010 shoes), I can't help but feel the styling has failed what could potentially be amazing individual pieces.

And I'm not a fan of those pointy shoes

i think balenciaga is one of the few houses that keep producing collections that are challenging and new, with materials, silhouette, techniques. i like how nicolas ghesquiere drapes the materials that look thick and stiff. i also like that the clothes look kind of modest, maybe bc of the styling, but of course they are not.

it's kind of ironic that balenciaga is considered mainstream.
