I have also worked with plasti-dip. The mixture alone is not solid enough to act as a shoe sole. It will work fine for the cracks / sides of the shoe. As others have said it will start to peel off, at least the bottom portion of the shoe. Thinning it would will only make it weaker.

I didn't think it would ne too tough to source a tougher latex-bases rubber compound that would act closer to the original. I suppose getting it to the liquid stage would take a specific kind of solvent and/or excessive controlled heat source. Maybe even a solvent to cure it after q certain point.

There are a lot of compounds out there for special effects latex production but my guess is that tracking down something that is tough enough to be a sole but pliable enough to melt is the tricky part.

the actual drips, or the sole/shoe as whole? the drips started wearing off after a few weeks maybe, but I can still see the outlines and I've had them for a year. the rubber is very durable imo, it hasn't wonr through anywhere, and underneath theres a leather sole.

I always planned on taking mine to a cobbler for a flat rubber sole once they get to that point. I took them in for an opinion and he said it shouldn't be a problem as long as there is a leather sole underneath.

Great work. There are no words, the boots are like brand new and wondering where you bought the rubber from, does it comes with other colors as well? ( white ? )

^ I think that's the best way around it. Best to have a cobbler add a nice (perhaps even impact reducing) sole, then possibly cover it over with more rubber if you really want to.

                      Might try something like this:
