"Helmut Lang" Womens S/S 13 - New York

You know, that now-loathsome name notwithstanding, this is pretty good.

Well, not ripping off rick should be seen as progress for sure.
Still, whenever I think about it I wonder what HL would be doing now had he stayed in fashion and this would not be it.

/\ What do you mean by that?

MrB, I agree - but that's a conundrum, isn't it. HL was not THAT well known, so aside from fashion professionals and diehards who would ask that question any longer? In retrospect HL might have won after all - cashed in without seeing his archives mined and exploited.

Was that part of the deal? I would hate to see a Collection Blanche style thing happening, but had been wondering why it hadn't.

And of course I agree and beside the fact few of the customers know the history, it's a moot point anyway and entirely hypothetical. He ain't coming back to fashion.

I don't know, it's very, very commercial - almost high street. While they are not a Rick Owens rip off anymore it still looks like a bunch of other designers who show in New York muddled together. There is nothing distinctive, nothing that would make me want to take a closer look. I bet this will sell very well though.

a few looks are nice. it's reminiscient of those early spring collections, what with the bright oranges, royal blues, and those rubbery (?) overlays on the skirts

                        but still obviously theory-d on

                          Totally agree, "NY fashion week"-alike
It's hard to pinpoint anything but "commercial",
but still unmistakably american in feel.

sorry for my bad english, i learned it from the book.

I too am inspired by homeless people when I buy a $1,000 jacket. Why don't we just shit on them? Oh, fashion, sometimes I wonder why I bother...(Faust)

When I saw the first few looks, I thought I was looking at Alexander Wang's collection.
It's decent. I too like the fact they strayed further away from the whole drapey, Rick-a-like look and those prints from tattoo artist Thomas Hooper are pretty cool (and most likely will sell very well).
I see what everyone is saying about it being very 'American'. It seems a lot of these designers are doing a very similar look, which is modern, watered down, balenciaga-ish, urban 'cool'.
But a lot of it seems contrived.

/\ Hmm, I highly doubt that the average Helmut Lang customer knows who Thomas Hopper is. Judging by the photo of the designers, seems like it was more up their alley.
