Hermès Names Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski as Artistic Director

Confirming earlier market reports that circulated following the departure of Christophe Lemaire earlier this week, Hermès has appointed Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear.

PARIS, France — Hermès has officially named Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear. The appointment confirms market reports that emerged earlier this week, following the departure of Christophe Lemaire, who left the French luxury brand after four years to focus full-time on his own label.

Vanhee-Cybulski is a design veteran with a CV that includes positions at Céline and Maison Martin Margiela. Most recently, she was women’s design director at The Row. She is the latest in a strong roster of former womenswear designers at Hermès, including Martin Margiela and Jean Paul Gaultier.

“We welcome the arrival of Nadège. Her talent and her creative track record will be great assets in the continued development of women’s ready-to-wear,” said Axel Dumas, chief executive officer of Hermès, in a statement.

She will reveal her first collection for Hermès women’s ready-to-wear for the Autumn/Winter 2015 season. Lemaire’s last collection will be shown over Paris Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2015 season come October.

PARIS — Hermès International has tapped Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, a behind-the-scenes talent with a strong track record at brands including The Row and Céline, as artistic director for women’s ready-to-wear at Hermès.

This confirms a report in WWD on July 23.

Vanhee-Cybulski succeeds fellow French designer Christophe Lemaire, who has left the brand after a four-year collaboration, citing his wish to dedicate efforts to his signature label.

Vanhee-Cybulski, 36, worked at Maison Martin Margiela in Paris, before joining Phoebe Philo at Céline as a senior designer and later The Row as women’s design director.

Axel Dumas, chief executive officer of Hermès, welcomed her arrival. “Her talent and her creative track record will be great assets in the continued development of women's ready-to-wear. She will devote herself full-time to our house,” he said.

Lemaire is slated to show his last collection for Hermès in Paris on Oct. 1.

Previous designers of Hermès women’s wear include Jean Paul Gaultier and Martin Margiela.

Before Margiela, Hermès employed a team of designers under women’s fashion director Claude Brouet, previously a fashion and beauty direct

or. In the Nineties, the team included Tan Giudicelli, Marc Audibet, Tomas Maier and Michele and Olivier Chatenet.

The French designer succeeds Christophe Lemaire, who has left the house after a four-year collaboration.
