    Hermès

starting an hermès thread, since i thought this 'petit h' thing was both cute and kinda cool, and they've done some awesome products over the years.

/\ this is cool. I am glad they are opening up a bit to the public.

Also, for anyone interested in artisan porn, there is a fantastic book called La Maison published by Steidl of Koto Bolofo's photos of Hermes workshops.

I was salivating while flipping through it.

          nice little clip.

some looks from margiela's hermès fw 2002 - i believe he worked together with tomas maier for at least part of his stint at hermès. what a team...

and the appointment of Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski makes total sense in the context of margiela AND gaultier having been there before her...

If I recall, there was a seamless felted cashmere coat made by a Mongolian artisan, when Lemaire was there. If anyone can put that picture up, that would be great.

The documentary was interesting though the most fascinating aspect of the whole thing was Hermes hiring a 60 year old woman as an apprentice.
Bravo to Hermes for being courageous and to the lady for being, not sure of the right word but let's just say awesome!

                  Thanks for posting Bodydouble.

Hermès by Margiela was my favourite era of this house. It was the quintessential French woman: Elegant and Timeless style at its best.

After that, I completely lost interest about It. Gaultier has never been in my cup of tea and Lemaire was a "decaffeinated" version of Margiela's Hermès.

Now I'm looking forward to see what Nadège Vanhee do for the house.

I love Hermès. Their quality and craftsmanship is exceptional in this day and age.

There's a reason why so many of their leather bags are heavy – they are made of practically 100% sturdy leather, sometimes with a fabric lining (which thankfully brings down the weight compared to leather). Most designer bags are made of thin leather, reinforced by paper and glued-on fabric. It's almost surprising to see how little actual leather there is in a random designer bag, even if it feels kind of substantial.
