Ive lived in la for 15 years before moving to taipei, in that time ive known many bands from their first show to playing Fuck Yeah Fest as long as the people dont change its amazing to see ur friends succeed. Shit i was good friends w/ Nels Cline before way before he joined Wilco and then was finally on the cover of Guitar Player Magazine and i couldnt be happier or feel more vindicated than when he did finally become "famous"
I think the notion that people that are extraordinary at their craft is now officially taboo.. only measure that people care about is the tangible returns/ rewards and how that relates to their dreams of success. Easy example to look at the potus.....
