Chant's poses for picture remind me of regal portrait. I think the serious air and the general grandor of the poses are not helping with the Rick style. Maybe a more relaxed pose and setting, and dirtier sneaks would be better. I think Chant has what it takes to pull off RO really well.

this post isn't directed at the addict specifically, i'm just quoting this because it breaks my wee little heart that u think the rick sneaks are ugly when u look so damn good wearing them in all the komakino/darklands rick owens product shots.

but really what i wanted to say is i disagree with the implication that a person has to stick to one particular style of dress/genre/whatever, like sophisticated bohemian (great description btw), in order to look their best. often times a poster switches it up and gets poor feedback because it doesn't look as good on them as their usual looks. but i think a well dressed person has to be versatile, and be able to dress appropriate to the situation while still maintaining personal style. using chant as an example, yes he looks better in his usual sophisticated bohemian looks, but this latest looks good too. my only problem with it is i just don't like those shorts. on anyone. but with a different pair it would look great...

shoes are a little too bright tho. still love em, just sayin...

One doesn't have to stick to anything. And yet, I believe that style is a manifestation of one's character and I like those who reflect in that in their clothes instead of juggling looks like theater costumes.

That scarf was a bit overwhelming, I agree. Still, a much more sophisticated piece than rick's kicks.

Lol me too. I think some of his pieces are quite campy and meant to be a mockery of consumer taste, sheep-like behaviour, the industry. I thought those sneakers were one such piece, but with their ubiquity I suppose I was wrong. Still, I can't help but think he has a laugh at everyone who buys them at retail only to have the staples (not a great constructional element of a thousand dollar pair of sneakers) fall out.

I, too, see style as a manifestation of character, but believe that it and juggling looks are not mutually exclusive. The latter could suggest a more playful, jovial character.

To be sure - I am not saying that one's style does not evolve, or one should not experiment. I was replying to cjb whose post seemed to smack of trendiness. Maybe I overreacted.

SombreResplendence, what ubiquity? I always laugh a little when someone calls an item on here something along the lines of ubiquitous. For us, it may be, but assuming the majority of people we interact with on a day-to-day basis are not members of this forum, it's hard to call it that.

Nah u didn't overreact. In fact it is nearly impossible to disagree with what u said. Maybe you were just a tad hypercritical. I'm not trendy in the least. I like rick sneaks. Merz hates rick sneaks. Both positions are ok. In my world rick sneaks are a million miles away from trendy.

The shots for darklands do not necessarily represent my taste...obviously. Of course there is a reason that i dont write in every post that the sneakers look like shit to me. But i have to admit that together with the octopus scarf, the rick sneaks are an item i really dont understand and which looks kind of clown shoes to me. I remember that pic with Marc Jacobs and his entourage, everyone wearing the rick sneaks...looked like the local teenage gang had a little walk off...i cannot deny that i follow trends myself, but this one just doesnt appeal my inner eye and understanding of aesthetic.
And yes, of course style has to evolve, but in Chants case, i think this is a backward movement from a high standard he sets...

This is true. You are quite right. I stand corrected. I should have said something like "overwhelming popularity."
