It is not thin at all. It's a heavy winter wool. A classic ph autumn/winter fabric.
Ewan must have been sweating like a pig wearing that in a studio under hot lights

Perfect summer jacket. Colour is slightly lighter than it appears in the pic but makes for a nice change from all the darkness.

The pinstripes are inconspicuous as they are only slightly a different colour than the rest of the jacket. It's a lighter gray than the picture suggests. Looks really great worn with lighter colours in a relaxed outfit.

I've seen that jacket. The conspicuousness is in your (well, my) head. I guess if the buttons don't bother you, I can see why the checks wouldn't. I, for one, think checks in any shape or form should be left to elderly gay dandies and English sports commentators.
