Whats the seat itself made out of, Chinorlz? Rope? Steel wires? I agree. The Barcelona chair itself and, as you said, by itself to me is still special. Its those whole setups of Barcelona benches or whatever in museums etc. that just kind of wash over me. I can't really appreciate their design anymore because of their standardized and played out application. Maybe I haven't been in enough corporate settings where the chair is used. I'm thankful for that!
The material is/was flag halyard... a type of rope used for sails etc.

Such a lovely piece and elegant minimalist at its best for sure.

We are moving to a new industrial loft that will be renovated before we move in... are still thinking about what kind of layout we'd like and what sort of overall feel we want for the place. Pretty exciting since we will probably purchase (gradually of course) some new furniture to keep there for quite some time. I'd love to have a little ode to Kjaerholm in the loft. Going to get a bunch of artwork that has been in storage tubes (some literally for years) finally framed cleanly and up on the flat concrete walls.

    A great work in progress!

Any recommendations for a cheap/reasonably priced dining chair? Ideally I'd find something made of bent walnut plywood, but I'm open to just about anything not too cartoonish or blocky.

I know this is vague, I've just spent a few weeks looking and have made no progress. I found once chair I loved, but a set of six ran ~$5000. And that's nearly 5x what I was hoping to pay.

Thank you for the suggestions! Those are all very nice, but a bit too rounded for my tastes. I know my first request was way underspecified. I think I like fewer curves? Or, if not fewer curves, maybe just fewer parts and less visual roundness?

The chairs I most liked were shaped like a blocky S, but without the top, so they were a single piece of very heavy plywood (or possibly just wood veneer) bent to provide a flat base, a solid front that runs behind the calves, a seat and a back. Much more stark?
