i trust your review and knew that the mcqueen would be fantastic. i can appreciate the neo-bressonian eastern european and south american stuff too but nothing resonates quite like a proper well-directed, well-cast, and well-acted (by professionals) movie with a capital M.

saw the human centipede 2: full sequence the other night at a promo screening. q&a with martin. distributor and he saying this cut had only screened at fantastic film fest and wasn't likely to play anywhere else... better than the first. ultraviolent this time. seriously lolled during the birthing scene.

Quite enjoyed Melancholia. Watching it again tonight. The acting was phenomenal and the movie was just beautifully shot.
Although I really can't imagine how utterly depressed von Trier has to be to conceive of the films that he does. I've seen much more grotesque and sad films, but von Trier's utter disdain for the human race is so twisted and unique in his movies.. I literally don't know how he thinks of these things.
It's brutal, smart, and uncompromising. Like all of his films, it's steeped in symbolism and great for discussion with friends afterwards. And like the rest of his work, people seem to love it or hate it (perhaps the mark of a master.)

Indeed. I can't wait for the phony accents and ridiculous facial hair. I'm especially intrigued by Cassel, I can't make out what he is supposed to be (aside from a rugged incarnation of animal sexuality I guess)
I also can't wait for the scene with Gatsby's shirts, future closet porn for Mr Sartorialist

obviously Cassel plays the id
honestly that would have been great to see other actors for the other instances, like the old fellow who plays gandalf and magneto as the Uber-Ich and Larry David as the ego. That would be glorious.pix

obviously, BSR should have written the scenario for this film. would have been much better
we should do an sz gathering and go see it all together. we can dress like neurosies, laugh obnoxiously loud at Michael Fassbinder's moustache and throw popcorn at the screen whenever Keira Knightley appears onscreen.

Maybe old news, but I just discovered, coinciding with his death, that bfi is
releasing The Devils in march 2012. Warners has allowed the release of
the original UK X certificate version, but not the 2004 'directors cut' version.
