    Re: Junya Watanabe

Thanks buckwheat! Great article, I like the way he talks (or doesn't talk) about his work. He seems to be completely focused on the things he can control and not bothered much by how he or his clothes are percieved by the rest of the fashion world.

AB Your men's line is more like real clothing, jeans and
T-shirts, and the women's has this huge element of fantasy. What is
fantasy for men? Do they get any of this in their fashion?

JW Basics. Men don't have much fantasy for
clothes, I think. It all comes down to the basics. That's the point
of starting the menswear. For the women's I research with fabrics and
shapes and the patterns; with the men's I really wanted to do something
          basic.

AB Doesn the men's reflect your personal style?

JW I do like basic for men but that wasn't
necessarily the reason I started the men's collection. I wanted to
work with basics so that I could become more creative with the
womenwear and the way to do that was to start another brand because you
can't do something very explorative and very basic in the same
          collection.

:( dammit junya. still like the clothes though, just always jealous of the women's wear...

I know exactly what you mean guys! His womenswear is always so engaging. If only...

They do look great Johnny. I really like the color and the crushed cotton jacket. The laminated detail seem like a nice touch too. And all the skirts are lovely...especially the paisley one. Where is Laika?? [:)]

Fallen into a swoon, Buckwheat.....[:)] Thanks so much for typing out that interview! I guess he doesn't have to say much, the clothes really speak for themselves.

It's all so nice--I love the blue dress and the panels skirt. [U] And the ruffled polo is adorable. I haven't seen any of these pieces over here yet--must take a walk to the comme store soon. [A]

BTW the sportsjacket made from track jacket material fits awesome, what a creative piece!!

Did you really like it? Cause I'm pretty sure I can find it for you for a good price in a month or two. The only one I liked was the one Johnny bought, grey on grey.

I'm totally broke right now but depending on the price and when you can get it (and the colourway, I liked the wine one too) yeah I'd be interested. Grey on grey soinds really good too...
