    Re: RICK OWENS

Yea, that's one of my favorites as well and I agree about the sneakers. I think if RO made an ALL black sneaker, I might 'think' about buying them but they are really bulky looking!
He makes a pair of side zip plain boots that would go awesome with that outfit.

      Re: RICK OWENS

As much as i like his Stuff Aesthetically

im going to step out on a limb and say His sizing (for men?) is very inconsistent.

I am weaing his Jeans right now and i had to do a ton of work to it, and from someone who knows about cutting , it was also poorly cut, which was very disappointing... I also saw some stuff at C21 and the sizing wasnt consistent at all.

I am looking at the same Jeans that Faust posted in the classifieds and they seem better made and more true to size than the ones i own (maybe they are produced in two different factories) i have some pics of the alerations i had to do to the jeans to make them fit (they are on my favories list now!!!!!!!) and i will post them when i have time.

had took them for the upcoming "On Denim" issue to be posted soon on my blog

As for those high heeled boots[:#] I wouldnt even bother to comment on them.....

id venture to guess that in 2008 people will be scrambling for those high heeled boots...in any configuration. Next level shit.

          Re: RICK OWENS

Man.. and I thought the heeled boots from Dior Homme a ways back were high. Was it Rick or Raf that put out those-essentially stiletto- heeled boots that Atelier picked up (and miraculously sold to some sucker(s))?

A large amount of Exploder is at the Paris flagship. The twisted l/s shirt (which is done not with two layers stitched together like the Julius one but with one layer folded under the other. Very nice.) was I think 250 euro. The leather insert pants were really really lovely. TONS on the racks at 480 euro. A black painted pair of dress pants was also 480. Weird pricing.

TONS of leather jackets of course. All of them amazing. The hooded leather jacket is a true winner to say the least. All leather jackets were in the 1300-1400 euro price range. Very reasonable especially since Rick's using a thicker leather for everything in this collection.

There is a padded coat that is in my opinion one of the best buys of the season. A padded zip up with a shoulder/neck flap that velcros closed that is I think 800-1000 euro. It's a SUBSTANTIAL coat and looks bad ass while keeping you nice and toasty. Will probably sell out very quick.

Unfortunately the curved zipper jeans were not in yet. For drkshdw, regular broken down jeans with oil/dirt treatment were there along with all the tees. Indeed the pricing for drkshdw tees is only about 20-30 euro less than the main line tees and they are thicker and have vintage treated collars (ie- holes). The quote shirt that has been posted here in in stores and I think is the lowest price of all of them (can't recall for certain but I think around 80 euro... maybe a tad more). The shirt was made after a Rick art piece where that exact quote layout was put on parchment paper and then painted (a la paper starching like they do for posters around cities) onto a glass panel. This was then placed into a recessed black painted plywood frame.

The elongated star tee is back and so is a dirty white plain tee. No Rick-Blowing-His-Brains-Out tee this season but when you buy something, the little receipt case has this picture on it.

The white side zip sneakers are being carried over and Rick has expanded a bit more into accessories which now include exotic leather card cases and folding wallets/small notebooks. Even bone carved combs and toothbrushes in their own croc leather cases. All for 300-900 euro.

Most interesting is the Rick Owens Bunny Video.

A dvd that comes in a white case that is a black and white video that Rick shot of a severely deformed woman (Bunny) as she talks and smokes cigarettes while sitting on a bench.

I shit you not, that's the video... and you can buy it at RO Paris. I didn't ask the price, but the video was playing on a small tv when I was there.

In terms of sale items, the mens was essentially cleared out. There was literally ONE small 4 foot long rack left of menswear and it was mostly blazers. A couple pairs of drkshdw off white elastic waist shorts and some black jeans shorts which I tried on (180 down from 350 euro) but the size 30 was too small (I was hoping for the sizing inconsistency to work in my favor for once hahaha).

For womens, there is still TONS TONS TONS on sale. Guys and gals, if you want some RO womens leather jackets they're around 750 euro now and there are some amazing ones and pretty much all sizes.

Oh and that nylon/cotton/leather sweatpant piece is beautiful but too intense for me. The stitched nylon belt piece is a lovely addition to the overall styling of the pants. Gorgeous piece!

Faust, unfortunately no luck on the leather shirt/jacket piece. Oddly enough as I was leaving the store I saw a dude (really heinous looking weird emo/nerdy guy) walking towards the RO store wearing it.

The gimp sweater has not yet arrived there either :(

This Brings me to an interesting question........ and i know PPl's opinion on this is going to vary greatly, as we all come from different backgrounds , have different convictions, and ultimately different views on life,

But, my question is,where is the line to be drawn on what is appropriate to be sold, promoted and accepted as fashion?

I once saw a picture of this woman, and to me, selling a video of her is just unacceptable, I know she is his friend and was apart of his LA entourage, but what is there to be gained or said from this?

for what purpose? what is the message behind it?

I also Dont like this picture of him sitting looking like a Tranny (in the high heeled boots) that he has now been putting on the DRKSHDW items . nor the picture of him supposedly committing suicide

Make no mistake, i like the guys work, own some stuff, and will be buying more......... but i think there should be a limit to what one does especially for the fact that his clothes are just as good without all of this sideshow garbage.................and doesn't need them to be appreciated

Thanks for the review. Not surprised the blazers are left - they are Rick's weakest link, I think (although once in a while he can make a very nice blazer).

Good write up Albert. Sounds like the flagship sells a lot of items we never see here like the leather goods and of course that weird sounding DVD. I might just have to call about those leather insert pants though; Do you remember what colors they had in stock?

                      Re: RICK OWENS

Deux-haha, a cookbook may be nice.

Zamb- I agree with you to an extent. I think most people/consumers who pay attention to Rick have come to the conclusion that he is a somewhat weird individual. Is some of it over the top? Yes. I guess I just tend to look past it, and I especially don't buy it. (tee with him shooting himself would be weird as hell to wear) But he does have some weird, kooky, artistic vision that is undeniably him, so I give much credit to that and with all the weird things he has done, he has also done some pretty cool ventures. The furniture rocks! So I don't know if some of it is just a put on for marketing/PR purposes or if it is truly him.

I think if outsiders were to look in (people who don't care about fashion, etc. etc.), they would probably be offended by some of the imagery he uses though. But, I guess that happens with all sorts of things now a days.

what i am saying (asking rather) is shouldnt there be a line as to what is acceptable within the context of FASHION?)

In his particular case, what does him dressing like a tranny has to do with selling the great clothes he makes for his DRKSDW line , which existed before he took that pic.

I think plenty of people are well aware that he is a freak (I don't mean this in a derogatory way), and plenty of people buy his stuff exactly because of that. And I do agree that it should not have bearing on what you see in his clothes. Michel Foucault was a freak - he publicized his S&M activity - noone has yet dismissed him as a great philosopher.

I know Rick has also stated he grew up in Los Angeles, in a pretty seedy part of town and that envokes some of the imagery in his line. And that, to me, I quite like. If we all were to make clothing I think it would or should convey where we've been, what we've been through, etc. even if it is a little weird. [:D] It makes it a whole lot more interesting.

I think we had this discussion earlier in this thread, hehe. I think ultimately, the decision of how to put out his line is his, it's not really like there's a set rules to promote/createa fashion line even ig I don't like that side of his clotheseither.

That said I don't see why he shouldn't sell a DVD he made...

                                Well, yes and no,

i think you can go either way, albeit with some amount of restraint.

this is the reason why i don't particularly care for Tom Ford anymore............. i dont mind the suggestion of sex in clothes, but i dont like his unending obsession with promoting sex and pornography.........and while i dont mind unisex clothing in some instances, I will not endorse something such as High heeled boots for men!
for me there has to be a line drawn, and the most creative among us are those who are able to express exactly what they want to say without crossing the clear and unchanging distinctions among us with respect to sex/ gender/ life/ death/roles in society etc....

Hedi slimane's clothes are androgynous, but you can clearly see that it was intended for a man, and before i get my head ripped off , i m only using this to aid in the point im trying to make for I'm not saying ricks (mens) clothes are for women or anything like that.

i personally came from an environment where women were beaten and sexually abused by men without any kind of consistent justice (police? Law? please........) but i steered clear of those things in my work.

i am a devout Christian, but ive never done a religious themed collection,
In Jamaica women wear booty shorts and tank tops, very breezy clothing like in LA (tropical climate) , albeit with a Caribbean vibe........... when i decided to do collections, i steered clear of those things because it would seem too obvious. My collections never have a lot of colour (nor anything remotely tropical) and they are always very structures as opposed to airy and light.

                                In the end Casius,

maybe its all a matter of opinion, but as for me, I do believe that there are some experiences that we have/had, that for the good of ourselves and the society are better left as just that............ experiences we've had
