Setting a new low in image quality (you must really decide after the first paragraph if it's worth reading on ), but wanted to share as I found this while cleaning up my desk... nothing earth-moving, but nevertheless.

        many thx for the articles.
the independent's article abt HL is here as well:

Helmut Lang’s designs defined the Nineties. He retired from his label five years ago, but his cool, metropolitan style is the major influence next season. Susannah Frankel hails a modern master

They put newspapers on the Internet these days?
My god, these modern times. Changed to links.

I love that you posted those. And I love that he chose to collaborate with Jenny Holzer for that campaign. I almost included the first one but glad I didn't because it's so much more impactful seeing the set like this.
                    Thank you for posting them!

I'm tempted to add some of her work here ā€“ the stuff that inspired Lang ...stay tuned!

And yes, second-to-last shot is editorial. Damn hot editorial, at that.

Helmut Lang, the artist and ex-designer, is shredding the last of his archives to create a sculpture in East Hampton. Check out why Helmut Lang is destroying the last bits of fashion he has.

ummmmmm. i don't know how i feel about this. sure he should be able to do whateverthefuck he wants to do, but i'm also angry and kind of sad.

sad prt: this piece wont even look close to as amazing as any one of the pieces he shreds specially because we know how much was lost.

edit: how many grail mummy pants were lost

Oh I don't know.. there's something rather lovely about it to me. Has nothing to do with repurposing "the remains" into art (quite frankly, there was more art in what he destroyed than in what will be created from it, if you ask me).

I just see it as the ultimate swan song to the Helmut brand that once was, especially powerful considering the mass-up-your-ass, soul-less crap which now bears his name:

"What once existed, can no longer be found. Anywhere."

You can destroy all the clothes you want. *You can't destroy a legacy.
