Thread: The work of Helmut Lang

This thread reminds me of the days when I knew nothing about fashion and started reading this article somewhere describing the current (5~6 years ago) state of menswear and Helmut Lang. I was still a poor uni student back then with no means of acquiring any garments, but nevertheless I slowly started getting interested in the fashion scene with one of my closest friends being a fashion design student (who now ended up doing something completely unrelated) and her telling me how awesome Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano are and everything ;) Here are some Lang pics from my old HDD I found.

^^Those ads are great. I really liked Helmut's concept of fashion, or as he called his shows, a "Sťance de Travail." It was almost like he was working on a lifelong art project.

Well, I would bet that Helmut took them upstairs from the NYC store. He still has the office there, apparently!

Thanks a lot, B-I. I just wish these images weren't so challenging to view.

I miss HL too. Doubly so now that we've witnessed some of his art. [79]

What's the status on him going back to fashion design? I mean, is it even on the table or there's just simply no hope to see him come back?

... I heard that StyleZeitgeist members have been wiring money in to a private Swiss bank account with the intention of hiring Helmut Lang to design the very debut SZ collection for F/W 09-10... [79]

To ensure that Mr. Lang complies, we are holding his cock hostage.

    I like this ...

I think when I design it's more in terms of taking care of the body
than in trying to specifically inject sexiness. That can look very
crude and obvious, and I think a lot of other collections are too
concerned with that. For me it's all about thinking of the body and
how to design for it ...
