    Re: The Yohji World

yeah the knits are nice, quite heavy as well. The manga print oversize knits I think would make great collector's items for the Yohji die-hard.

I have noticed something about Yohji's collections in the past few years though, spring/summer is usually the collection for wearable basics, whereas F/W tends to take on a more thematic and conceptual approach. Luckily for me being in mild hong kong, i can pretty much stock up on S/S clothes and wear them all year round. The good thing about Yohji's classics is you can wear something like a black jacket every day and it won't look repetitive.

      Yohji store Antwerp

Yesterday I visited Antwerp and was surprised that the Yohji shop already opened. To be honest, I have only visited the Etienne Marcel Store in Paris, and what immediately caught my eye is the big luminous, crisp-white space with a low-density of clothing and accessories (especially the men's section was quite minimal).

Although the Etienne Marcel store is far smaller, still it seems to have a more balanced offer of women- and men's clothing on a smaller space (higher product density). The Antwerp store was afterall quite a disappointment, especially because of theminimal product range for men and the fact that for me the space looked like a big white, luminous gallery which I have seen before in other store concepts and is in my opinion not innovative and/or contemporary any more.

I haven't been checking out the women's section very clearly, so can't give a very fundemental opinion onthat. Looked wider and deeper than the men's range, that's all I can say.

oh, man, i've been watching Yamamoto mens runway shows from early 90's - they are so bad, it's hilarious! He really has progressed immensely.

            Coming Soon film

            YAMAMOTO'S COMING SOON

            YOHJI YAMAMOTO
and Italian design licensing company Sinv Spa have joined forces to
launch a new 'super casual' capsule collection, COMING SOON, offering
contemporary clothes for men and women that are not about branding -
just cool, off-duty design. The first collection, comprising of 170
pieces for men and 200 for women, is casual, comfortable, stylish and -
despite being designed to look simple - carefully constructed with the
sophisticated detailing that Yamamoto is known for. Not available to
buy until July this year, the collection is currently being shown via
video link on YouTube. In fact, shunning the catwalk, COMING SOON plans
to continue making short films for the next few seasons, choosing
different cities, each with a unique group of choreographers and new
dancers showcasing the clothes through movement and expression.

              Re: Coming Soon film

it's a tiny triangle glass/brick box (low ceiling, very claustrophobic) with 6 white racks, displaying a total of 20 pieces, a small Yohji/Mikimoto jewelry stand, and one mannequin. The two tiny changing rooms are cylinders wrapped in white fabric. There was absolutely no effort put forward to make it a "boutique." It simply looks unfinished. Awful. I can appreciate that kind of minimalism when the space itself is old and beautiful (like the Antwerp store, or Yohji's soho store), but the space itself is absolutely blah. WTF were they thinking?!

                Re: YY store

I finally went yesterday and I loved it. It's simple and spare, but all the light pouring in made the space both airy and cozy. I love the way the clothes are hung too--you can really inspect them from all angles. It's like a Yohji forest! They carry +Noir in addition to the mainline. I know I said it before, but with all the huge commercial stuff that's on the brink of happening over here (or has happened already, like that despicable Apple store), I really appreciate the quietness of Yohji's footprint.

I also saw some cute things at Y-3, but for the most part, the clothes weren't nearly as good as on the runway.
