Surely, I just went with a few books I either had around my computer or plan to order. I think Benjamin is one of the most relevant SZ author but I might be alone in this.

I feel like if we add all of Frankfurt school, SZ servers will collapse under intellectual weight of modernism. But, hey, as long as we don't add Judith Butler...

I think it's such a poignant defense of knowledge and the beauty of literature and the danger of government controlling art - I don't see how one cannot see its importance.

While my feelings lie more towards yours than MonaDahls regarding Fahrenheit 451, I'm resurrecting this more to recommend a book that deals with the theme above. Dream of Scipio by Iain Pears has as one of its central themes the defense of intellectualism (with a specifically heavy emphasis on art history within this) in the face of religious, nationalist, or fascist persecution. Certainly much less casually approachable than Fahrenheit (in many ways one of my chief criticisms of Scipio) but eminently worth the initial patience.
