That being said. I love the new collection and I am always eagerly anticipating the beautiful pieces that show season to season. LOVE IT!

      ...getting back on track

I am looking forward to seeing better pictures of this collection, and more of it!

On the Rick Owens v. Julius note - I believe the two designers are doing very different things. I think any overlap is not seen as 'copying' as both are conveying different messages. Rick seems to be more fascinated by extremes, often playing with volume and proportion. Julius plays up the post apocalyptic, exploring more into a dark underworld of subcultures it seems. I don't think you can discount what Julius does as purely ripping Rick. I think their work stands on its own, not playing into any particular cultural influence like many Japanese designers. When I think of a piece that they 'overlap' in, like the button-less cardigans they both produce, I do not see them in the same contexts. Look at how it is worn in the RO Fall 06 Mens show and compare it to the ultra drapey doomsday collections of Julius. Just not the same thing.

...I love what both designers are producing and will continue to buy from both.

        Spot on.

Rick Owens / Julius comparisons are just lazy.

Isn't a lazy comparison such because it is so easy, or obvious? While stating the obvious isn't necessarily enlightened, it doesn't make it wrong, as you have thoroughly asserted while waiting for an articulate justification from another member.

I agree with much of what Andrewisalsorad has to say, but not to the extent that a Julius/Rick Owens comparison can be tossed out the window on the dubious basis that it is considered lazy.

That being said, some of those leathers look quite choice, and I may look to score one if they come large enough for me...

I was referring specifically to the skull-cap comparison

The original poster implied it was a Ric Owens rip

If I wanted to be lazy I could then say Ric ripped off , for example , Thierry Mugler or any of the hundred designers who have used this idea

Or just some kid wearing a second hand one from Army Surplus

            But the point is moot.

Because it is not a flying cap

It is inspired by Ancient Roman Headgear

A wrong comparison (which you are now asserting it to have been), is something different from a lazy comparison (which you previously asserted it to be).

                Semantics ?

I called it a "lazy" comparison because it was unoriginal and "kee-jerk"

But I have already stated that

                Why so anal ?

This kind of discussion belongs in a "trash" section, but this forum doesn't have one. Let's just get the thread back to Julius.

I think we both like Julius, so let's just leave it at that.

                        Why initiate it then ?

I would be happy to talk about the pointlessness of constantly posting negative comparisons between new designers and those that have come before

If you could stop obsessing about my choice of words and phraseology

I was trying to make sense of the incoherence you have lent to these last pages. You make wild and fragmented statements, rarely justifying them, and beyond the historical Roman inspiration, have added little to this thread beyond antagonizing numerous people, citing tired examples of "pissing off the right people".

Constantly posting negative comparisons? I was aware of the one, and it seemed like an honest mistake to me, not one that merited your coming down on them so harshly. To snidely deride them based on their missing a historical allusion that wouldn't mean anything to most of the world is just rude.

Pointlessness? Your very language absolutely attacks the point of view you purport to want to "talk about". This is a forum for discussion, not for outright attacking other people's points of view. I haven't been a member of this forum long, and as such I try to be somewhat civil when expressing myself. It doesn't seem like you're remotely capable of that, so like Chinorlz, I am done interacting with you in any fashion.

I'd say Julius doing Julius but styling it like Rick Owens (those caps, the scandinavian looking models, more leather hiding the drape). As I mentioned before the Japanese are keeping it safe and not going out of their comfort zone when tackling the european market for the first time. They've got a strong and unified back-catalog and present a sort of distilled best of, while trying to merge it with european sensibilities, a move that may blow back in their faces if they loose the otherness that somehow explains their magnetism.

This is what i was replying to

A dismissal of a whole nation of Designers.

And of Julius in particular on the basis of these few snaps.

And I was attacked , ridiculed and misquoted for doing so

Which is fair enough because I am happy to defend my POV
