in my early 20's, i was pursuing a career as a creative in advertising.

the only places i wanted to work at the time was W+K, Fallon, and BBH. no one hired me, and i didn't want to make ads for diapers at some shitty agency, so i quit and pursued other endeavors.

Well done, even good advertising is shit. Trust me, I know.
Hi. I like your necklace. - It's actually a rape whistle, but the whistle part fell off.

Art or copy I wonder? Which industry did you end up in afterwards?

        I started in Leo Burnett...

And mrbeys advertising can be quite sweet ;)

              are you still in advertising?

Yeah, still in branding and advertising.

Auction business is exciting, last night I been hanging out with MD of one of the auction houses and he been telling me about YSL sale. Apparently it was epic.

As far as international avant-garde fashion Portland is a wasteland. We have a lot of local designers and some typical designer stuff like Prada, Hugo Boss, Neil Barrett, etc.

Dries van Noten women's line is the only thing good that is available here.

                      ^
Yeah, guys. Get a room. LOL..

Portland's a killer place for music & art. It's also a foodie's dream city. It's liberal, creative, and at the forefront of sustainable urban development. Despite having its own Fashion Week, fashion really isn't its calling. Unless you're EMO, then you fit right in..

A lot of people in advertising and event planning base themselves in Portland because the cost of living is low compared to LA or NY. I have friends there who pay less for their converted loft spaces and luxury condos than people here in NY pay for their paltry studio apartments. And no sales tax stretches your dollar farther.

When I lived there, I'd just shop when I traveled and got a lot of my things off eBay.

But this IS the Introduce Yourself thread, so I don't know how this conversation even started here. It should be moved to Randomness. Unless someone wants to start a Portland thread. Hmmm...

There is but a single reason for private life - lack of it.

^^i like to add just a few more things about portland before alesha and i make out..

if you still want to move there, note that:

                          1. portland is supposed to have more strip clubs than las vegas.
                          2. gas stations are all full-service.
                          3. cabs are wayy over-priced.
                          4. assisted suicide is legal. fuck yeah!
                          5. rain.

                            ^^

                            1. True. And none of this topless-only crap.
                            2. True. No pumpin' your own in Portland. People do that shit for you.
                            3. Who cares. Everyone drives.
                            4. True. So is lighting up a joint, ahem, on advice of your doctor.
                            5. Ensures every day is silent and grey.

Now go grab your Dr Pepper-flavored Lipsmackers and go find that drunken Ruskie.
