actually, it's as much a sort of performance as a piece in itself

the artist photographed his hand holding the tree when it was young and thin. he then made a sculpture of his hand and placed it around the tree. over the years, the tree developped and formed a sort of growth around the hand. In time, it will probably swallow it completely. It is one of the most poetic pieces of contemporary art I know of.
