Rei is truly a fashion enigma...i am not quite sure how to respond to this collection. The way it is presented here, I like it for sure...a very stark contrast to the relaxed and quirky preppy-ness of S/S 08. Actually with the recent trend in playing with layers, textures on outerwear and tops for Spring, i was expecting Number (N)ine to pull off something like this, but looks like CdG did it instead. I'm interested to check out the fabrics used for this collection up close.
Nostalgia is making me think that this is my favourite collection of the season so far...

One of the best of the season for me--a perfectly balanced collection from Rei. i love that she rounded out all the elegant black with the patterned pieces. Judging from the detail shots, this is going to be even better in person...the details look amazing.
***the hakamas are lovely...but I've always liked men in skirts...[79]
...I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.
I like this too, although I don't think i'd wear much of it. It's too gothy, punky for my own taste. It does however have a kind of understated integrity which is not something she's been majoring on recently. It is actually quite a safe collection apart fom the skirts, which, no matter what anyone says, are just plain silly! There is, as Buckwheat says, a lot of plundering from previous collections, with the white overstitch, the outside in jackets, the boiled polyester and the circle patterns.

Now you sound like Faust. [86]
I guess you could call it safe. I was thinking many people would find it "wearable," which is often not the case with these collections....
