A bit late to this but I watched the first season the other day and so far I'm digging it. Although the acting could use some work and it is basically a soap opera, it is amazing at following the comics. It is by far better than most of the movies DC has been putting out lately.

On a side note, the new Batman vs. Superman movie looks like it's going to crush my soul.

Just finished watching True Detective (finally) and I must say it was pretty good. Matthew McConaughey has been on quite the run lately, and how can one not like Woody Harrelson?

Just watched the game of thrones episode...

literally *wont spoil* the most gruesome death I have ever seen on TV, made me feel sick/depressed/disgusted.

Also seriously alot of trash filler scenes starting to lose interest in the show wondering if just reading the books will be better. A lot of good characters are losing what made them appealing or just straight up dying.

Funny you should say this - I am starting to feel that despite all the action not much is happening.

My friends who have read the books say that the show is staying pretty true to the book. I think the difficulty is that the book is so complex with multiple parallel storylines going on. Difficult to cram a lot into 1 hour a week so each story feels like only a tiny bit is happening each time interspersed with intense scenes/sequences.

              Yesterdays episode... pretty insane!

Yeah, the issue now is that they have gotten to the point in the series where, in the books, things are pretty slow and bleak, so it'll be interesting to see where they go with the show.

The books all have long passages in them that are dull as dishwater, the story is moving on at a snails pace after ASOS. And let us not forget the 10 page descriptions of meals and the extremely bad written 'erotic scenes' GRRM just won't let go of.

That being said, I still prefer the books to the show. The female point of view characters are a lot more fleshed out in the books and not as one dimensional as the writers of Game of Thrones want to make people believe. That goes especially for Sansa, Cat and Cersei.

                    agreed. last night GOT, wow...

I haven't read the books but found this youtube channel that has some great history and back story on the characters, families, cities, etc.

So, I watched the first 6 episodes of Treme and it's not doing anything for me.

Treme was really dissapointing after the wire.

The first couple episodes of Treme are slow burners (much like The Wire actually). I'd rank the seasons as such 3>2>1>4. I think the payoff is worth it although it depends on how willing you are to get to take a chance on the characters

I agree that it took The Wire 5 episodes or so to get going, so I am giving this benefit of the doubt, but not sure for how much longer. The music is fine, but it is overwhelming and gets in the way of story development by significantly slowing it down.
