$140 for a hair cut is ridiculous. recently i went to hair mates and let an apprentice cut my hair for $25, and it is one of the best hair cuts i have gotten. far superior to any hair cut ive had which was 2-3x the price.

my sis used to go to toni&guy and Sassoon and let some random apprentice cut her hair for cheaper. Most times it was okay until one day... That one was pretty bad and took a few months to fix. So i'd say be cautious esp if you have something important to attend to soon after. it could be totally random you know... But indeed $140 is a bit too much. Tried ~$150 haircut at sassoon and toni&guy etc and I have had better haircuts for about or less than $60.

I'd choose Pulino's over Gemma any day. I can't even eat at Gemma anymore, I've eaten there so much in the past.

Well, I did mention that it is not necessarily for "those on a budget" didn't I?
And there are things much more ridiculous than a $140 haircut... I mean, there are women on this forum who average $150+ per haircut, I imagine...
I'd say you had good luck with your hair mates apprentice! Congrats to you!
But I stand by what I said: If you want solid work done by a trusted professional, without a doubt: Go to Chrystoph.

Cool definitely let us know what you think. I also work a couple blocks away and ate with a friend at the standing bar last week. Cheese, charcuterie, crudo (a must try), and the caprese from the mozzarella bar were all great, as is the wine selection, but it's all pricey. Expect to drop 30-40 per person. It's still too nuts to get a seat at any of the restaurants at lunch.

You can also just pick up charcuterie, cheese, and bread for takeout and grab a bottle at the wine shop around the corner. If theres a tall super skinny dude (Craig) working there, ask and he can point you to some funkier off-the-beaten-path bottles. Tell him you know Todd "from the internet."

Truth is, NYC is a fantastic place to live if you have a lot of money and connections and a shitty one if you don't. End of story. It NEVER reaches a top tier in any quality of life survey - but that's because those surveys are aimed at a larger audience. It's what you want out of life, really.

hahaha, oh the memories of when my family use to live there. I think for some it might be too hectic of an environment to live in, but for me that sense of "chaos" is what always draws me to NYC.
