    SS 09

Some variations on FW 08, polka dots replacing, for example, the hydrangea print :

And nice variations on the collar, with small lapels, symetrical or not :

      Conclusion ?

Ann D's knows (only) three different types of waistcoats, which can be of course combined together :

      - the classic form (and its variations)
      - the asymetrical form (due to the cut or the buttoning)
      - the hybrid vest/coat

great thread, guys. it's like annie d waistcoat appreciation day. :) i also like ann's waistcoats and admire how despite the different directions she goes on from one season to another, the soul of the design is consistent and unmistakenly her own. you guys have inspired me to make ss09 my first 'ann waistcoat season' - i've entertained the idea of getting before but never pulled - now time to figure out which one. it looks to me like this season includes one waistcoat which harks a return of the slimmer ss03 style faust posted (http://i39.tinypic.com/2814f3n.jpg) but with the twist of a different color back and back straps (is that the right word them?) - saw this in the AR rag buy pdf posted in another thread. there's also the symmetrical cotton waist coat with the single center button closure as seen on LVR (http://tinyurl.com/99xmze).

Tell you what - I never even remotely considered buying a waistcoat. I mean, it did not even enter my sartorial vocabulary. But Ann made me change my mind.

Fantastic thread, Chant. Would be great if people could post themselves wearing the waistcoats they own.

Faust, those images from the 03 shows are so good!!

Aren't they?! Makes me want more vintage Ann. Everything 03-05 is untouchable.

Will post a pic in Ann vest soon.

I don't know if a single piece can be a good indicator for the quality of her inspiration, but if it is, then FW 03, SS 05, SS 07, FW 07 and FW 08 should have been good seasons for Ann D.
And SS 09 wouldn't be so bad...

her collections always seem vaguely similar to each other.

In SS 06, the shapes of the waistcoats are quite classic, even though they're sometimes asymetrically buttoned.
I wish I could walk around dressed like this, but I'm afraid my student's diet of Kraft Dinner and pizza has made my physique less than ideal to be able to pull this look off.

good thread, thanks guys for the great pics

Ann D is pretty awesome with the waistcoat and showing the seemingly infinite ways to wear one - I did not catch what Chant mentioned about there only being 3 variations, might have to look again. The womens looks are especially great, very nice execution in layering/varied length.
