This kind of hurts my eyes, tbh.

I like Gareth, I like his triangles and quilted things and some of the coats here look truly great. But there's a lot of rubbish here, as Merz put it, that starts to overshadow the good design ideas. I mean, spiky nails and shredded leggings? Really!!??? I'm quite surprised to see something so cliched and obvious from him.
      I agree, but I don't think it's that surprising,
his past work is filled with cliches.
This is not to say that he hasn't done anything of
interest, but you have to scrape a lot away to
      find it.
Are you afraid of women, Doctor?
      Of course.

Agree. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him evolve, as I do think there is something of interest, especially in his womenswear. Also, as Inaya said, the construction and materials are excellent, which is rare for such a young designer. I've seen some pieces in person that were really very desirable...

            i wouldn't say hype,but ro's fw collection reminded me a quote from Ezekiel 25:17:
"from The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!"

Not sure I see the problem with Pugh using clichés; he's the fashion equivalent of an excellent genre writer and transcending genre is all about twisting archetypes around until they get the reader outside of the comfort zone he was never expecting to leave.

As for your quip about Owens being all hype I don't even have to answer it as it is, so far, entirely unsupported and made without the slightest acknowledgment of the additions he's made to his design vocabulary
Selling CCP, Harnden, Raf, Rick etc.

Word. B-I, you have to explain yourself (maybe in the RO thread). I demand satisfaction (throws down the gauntlet, Pushkin style).

When did we leave the comfort zone, when it comes to Pugh?
Pugh is trading within highly comfortable connotations,
I know you like there structures.

I'll take you and Faust to the Rick Owens thread,
there are so many great celeb photos, that
                      will come in handy!

That girl is Merz' long lost steezy sister.

She was super cute, elfin and wearing a lot of blush for that dramatic face. Might have been a dude though, err, nevermind.

Which connotations? BTW what I like about structures is admitting they're here (why the denial?) and playing with them.

As for RO I don't see how celebs wearing his stuff makes his last show any less good. Do you stop listening to your fav band when they make it big and how big are we talking anyway, this is RO not Dior Homme.

If every little brat wearing hugg boots were to suddenly adopt the tee-shirt of my favorite band as their new hit-accessory, then I'll probably stop wearing that tee-shirt.

I agree that popularity doesn't make the clothes any better or worse, but it does changes the meaning of wearing it. Stopping here, I'm not going to beat a dead horse.

Cliches are only interesting when they are being manipulated and I see no evidence of that happening here. He's presenting, not twisting-- totally in the comfort zone, as B-I, said. The choice of music just reinforces it. Coming from someone capable of imagining truly otherworldly garments (pre s/s 09), this is utterly disappointing. How to wear this and not look like a poseur? That's the only challenge it offers...

gosh, i just don't know how anyone could see it otherwise!
