I don't get that really, but living in NYC helps.
On the other hand I often stroll down Fifth avenue on Sunday afternoon making shady comments to the Hugs wearing crowd...

i see a dude everyday when i walk past my local coffee shop. different rick leather everyday. he always half nods, so he either thinks we are members of some same fraternity or that I am a brutal top.

does anyone here also purposely dress down to blend in the crowd, say, during day time?

About a month ago i was in SF on a windy day wearing a Gustavolins turtleneck, CCP long coat, diag zip boots, and some j-jeans. A couple was walking towards me as i was going downhill, and while trying to catch my eye the guy yelled, "YO DUDE...you look like Neo from the Matrix!" I didn't know how to respond really, so i just kinda gave a slight smile and nod while we passed by each other.

I get some weird looks at the raw-cut sleeves and hems of my Sellam jackets.

Maybe he thinks you are a power bottom?

To some degree I think this depends on where you live. Im originally from the north, and now live in the south. Sense of style seems rather devoid here. If you dress nice, you stand out. Not always up for that all the time.

worst burn I've ever gotten from some guido-jock: "Looks like he shops in the little girl's section of the tough-guy store." I was just wearing skinny jeans and a vintage biker jacket...?

he didn't even say it to my face but after I had walked past him and his buddies.

                  bahahahaha. Oh Will, you charmer.

I haven't had to deal with those kind of inflammatory remarks since high school. And to be honest, my only reaction would be to not have one, at all.

I think you handled it well, if only I were there to snap a picture of you blowing a kiss.

Usually people just say things like "What? What is this? What's that called? Where'd you get that?" or people just do the "i'm obviously looking, confusedly, at what you're wearing out of the corner of my eyes and whispering to my friend as well about it"... nothing too bad though.

A while back I was wearing some Geller jeans (the bright blue ones from about a year ago) and someone behind me said "What? Only a gay dancer would wear those."

I have had a group of fat black chicks yell, "work it girl" as I was walking across the street...so I worked it

I was called an emo once by some bogans driving past in a car a couple of years ago because I was wearing (blue) dior jeans and a black cardigan , other that I've only ever got the occasional odd look from a passer by. then again I haven't worn that Lui Hon piece out yet...
