the result was very matte. I suppose the key is not to polish them, but to actually scrub them. a terry cloth towel is surprisingly rough when you add some pressure.

as for caring, I don't usually do anything to my boots except wear them and occasionally wipe clean if needed. not sure if thats the best way, but I've never had any problems. I've never seen good quality leather crack with regular use. but maybe someone who knows a bit more can elaborate on what type of leather is more prone to cracking.

Did the wet towel took of all the polish? normally when you add water to the polish the shoes get a water-polish finish resulting in even more glance...
on your first point - i always use a leather protection spray to waterproof the leather - any good cobbler will sell them - they don't leave a sheen or polish...this is the one I use

on your second point - thats why i used soap - to actually remove the oil in the polish
you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter...

        cheers Eton97!

I will definitely buy me such a spray. For now I need to remove the disturbing polish. So, you mean first soap then water+towel?

I don't want to give you any bad advice - i had a pair of black matt leather augusta polished by accident......I just washed them like you would wash your face, then dried with a towel - it worked perfectly, but i am sure others would warn against it......and i would be very cautious to do it again - try out a section on the back first maybe...

Sorry if this has been asked, but does anyone use shoe trees with their Guidi boots? Part of the aesthetic is the wonderful creasing that develops, but I wonder if it might be better in the long run to put in some kind of shoe tree to help with moisture and some of the bigger creases on the toes

the only shoes I would use trees on are ones that you definitely want to keep pristine and without creases. I don't mind creasing and a slightly more worn look, so I don't use them on any of my shoes.

Same for me. I use shoe trees for derbies with thin leather, in order to maintain its shape, but nor for sneakers neither for boots.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate them. I'm more interested in preserving the life of the shoe (I should have mentioned that they are the rather soft and malleable lambskin ones from a couple years back) than maintaining the original shape. I'll stick with shoe trees in my work shoes and leave the Guidis tree-less

Looks like they did a really good job and I'm sure you're pleased! But I kinda liked the muddy green/black
