A wonderful manga, more tranquil than some of images suggest.

^ Dorohedoro is one of my favorite manga, it also has a very sweet sense of humor despite the grim setting.
An object in possession seldom retains the same charm that it had in pursuit.

probably my favorite "post-apocalyptic" manga. sort of reminds me of blame! and gantz (along with some of the humor).

Lumina> Julius' designer Horikawa actually mentions Akira as a big influence in an interview for scoute.

Ugh, I'm surprised I still read Berserk. The anime cut it off at the right spot imo.

Anyone read I am a Hero? Akira manga?
Also I found out about Uzumaki through this thread and loved it. Plan on checking out the mangas mentioned on this last page since they sound to my liking.

Just started watching this from your suggestion. Love the whole escapist mood. Old anime cheesiness and wonky drawings, but easy to follow and has great impact so far (only watched two eps lol). Hopefully it touches on other themes instead of drilling the whole eternal life, happiness, life purpose struggle dynamic into my head for the entire season.

anime on the mind this morning here in Sydney, here's an interesting youtube regarding Mitsuo Iso's genius when it comes to being a Key Animator.

Just started reading Dorohedoro too. Very entertaining, love the humor. Starting a new manga is so exciting, hopefully I don't go through it too fast

This is not really on topic, but I was browsing through some old threads (insomnia sucks) and it just so happened that this anime thread and my old DIY scarf thread was opened up and I suddenly made the connection: my love of long scarves (and long sleeves) stems from anime and manga characters when I was young. I'm sure there's a lot of other influences from anime that have affected my personal style too, but I'm too tired to think right now. Anyway, just thought I'd say...zzzzzzzzzzz

And yes Lumina, you're on the ball. Julius is indeed influenced by Akira...but aren't we all? That anime scared the shit out of me when I first watched it...the ending...so gross...

If you liked the Akira movie, definitely check out the manga.

The movie was definitely a testament to the power of animation, how freeing and expressive and surreal it can be. However, I feel that compressing the story suffered immensely by compressing it into an hour and some odd minutes film (and also by being made in the 80s, I feel like a lot of animated films from this time had a similar awkwardness and underdevelopedness to them).

That said, the manga is great and actually makes sense.
