I consider the ability to sew a practical skill that anyone, who have the will and fair equipment, can become good at... meaning that anyone with a sense for design that is devoted enough has a great chance to become a well known designer. Am I right?
Or do u think that its all in the genes and the great designers were born to be what they are?

FFI is not a school, it's an ngo which supports local designers and promotes flemmish fashion.

I would have thought Bunka would be in tier one, dont disclude it because of it's location!!!

            some pretty amazing designers have come from there;
            Jun Takahashi
            Yohji Yamamoto
            Kenzo takada
            Nigo (bathing ape.....-_-)
            Junya watanabe
and i was told tatsuro from julius and the designer of viridi anne went there, but cant confirm that...

also they have exchange programmes with CSM and parsons, tier 1s

would someone be so kind to recommend a continuing ed course/school in nyc for someone who wants to do his own tailoring and possibly patternmaking? or leathercraft/tanning?

i'm looking for some practical knowledge, not to make a career out of it..

                    thanks.

I would imagine both Parsons and FIT would have something like this? Pratt, maybe as well? Check their websites.

Mhm, I would either upgrade LCF or downgrade CSM in these lists. At least for menswear courses, anyway. LCF went through some restructuring and getting new staff, teachers from CSM and RCA, new head of course, etc. So it's much more decent now.

I am surprised RCA is not mentioned here more often. They have a great reputation.

But yeah, I would say if one can afford, applying to Antwerp is definitely worthwhile.

Also be careful of where you want to end up and what kind of style suits you. If you just want to go crazy and hope for the best (in terms of making it), Antwerp and CSM are definitely worth considering, but I've known enough CSM graduates working in shops as sales assistants and managers, because they can't get people to wear their creations, or cannot relate to working in an environment where you have to produce stuff that actually needs to sell. On the other hand, you might get lucky (see Galliano).

endersgame, LCF has a specialist tailoring course. Also, if you'd apply to any institution in London you would have a chance of getting some practice in Savile Row, and nothing can beat that for tailoring.

Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm (www.beckmans.se).
Beckmans is the home of basically every Swedish designer worth mentioning.

How many swedish designers are worth mentioning? I'm not against swedish design per se, but I really dislike the bland trend that's been going around.
