HELLO SZ,

We are about to leave office for the weekend. and when we officially return on Tuesday, it will be a new week and a new year. 2018.
We want to take the time to thank every customer who either contacted us, inquired about our products and bought an item from Zfactorie during 2017.We appreciate everyone of you.
This year was an interesting year for us with a lot of highs and a lot of lows, but through it all you were here with us, inspiring us to design, to continue our work and giving us reasons to remain relevant and to succeed.
As we close out this old year and look forward to the new, for 2018 we promise to serve you better, to work to increase your satisfaction and appreciation of our brand and its products.
Here are a few things you can look for in 2018

- BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE -
We make great products, and we have come to realize that taking good care of our customers is paramount to the future success of our brand. We will be working on implementing New store polices and beefing up our customer service staff to ensure that you have the best experience we can offer.
Often it is used as an excuse that smaller companies move slower and cannot be expected to provide the same level of efficiency as their larger competitors. While some of that may be true We hope to challenge ourselves in that regard, to move from good to great - Look out very early in January for changes and new polices that are geared towards serving you better


NEW DESIGNS AND NEW IDEAS
For a small brand we produce a wide range of products, from outerwear, to Tops, Bottoms and Accessories. the only areas we have not tapped into so far are Jewellery and footwear.
While we have a wide range of products, a number of them are iterations of products from earlier seasons. For 2018 look for many of our "classics" to drop out of the rotation and a series of NEW IDEAS/ PRODUCTS to take their place. Right now we are working on a completely new design of the DNA Jeans. Classics like Henriksson Hoodie, Razor Coat etc. will take a break for a while and completely new concepts will be explored. Seminal and underdeveloped ideas that are still in the developmental stages will be introduced to push the brand forward.


- WOMEN'S WEAR -
We will be expanding our women s wear offering, as we grow the customer base we are exited about women's wear, it offers us a platform for a new expression of our creative output, a new and different customer base and for experimentation with fabrics and techniques we could not do with the menswear

THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET

Our company will have significantly more focus on the North American Market. For Spring 2018 we are hoping to do several Pop up shops a week at a time in about three Cities in North America. We hope to do one in New York (our home base) another in Los Angeles which is our biggest market outside of New York in the United States. We also are working on a Pop up in Toronto, that will help us to reach our Canadian client base further up North. We are exited about these possibilities and we work to have a greater presence and to increase knowledge of Artisanal Clothing in the United States

- GLOBAL -

At the height of our wholesale business, we had about seventeen retail accounts across the Globe. The brand was represented in places like Kuwait, South Korea, Paris, London, Dusseldorf, Tokyo Japan, Kiev in the Ukraine among others. We took a break from wholesaling to stores and our accounts were reduced to about three cities outside the United States. For 2018 and beyond we will slowly again rebuild our wholesale business. We hope to work with SELECT retailers who understand what we do, share similar ideas and are willing to partner with us to provide THE BEST POSSIBLE PRODUCTS and the best retail experience for the customer.
Artisanal retail and Artisanal Fashion generally is struggling. Over the last 2 years I can think of more than a dozen promising brands who are no longer in business because of the struggles of the market. thankfully we are still around but we take nothing for granted. The world is changing and designers, brands and stores much change with the times. We hope to experiment with new ways of presenting our work and we hope that we can find like minded retailers to partner with us to bring the customer what they need from the brand. We hope to be a part of the resurgence of Artisanal Fashion in both America and across the Globe.

It costs $60-70 to ship a medium flat rate box to Europe by US post. Every time I sell a magazine to Europe, I lose money. We are small businesses and we don't have the massive discounts that big companies get from shippers. Man, everyone just LOVES to complain - what a bunch of privileged crybabies this world is becoming.

I honestly think people do not understand what is happening here........
As Faust said, we lose a ton of money on international shipping. A TON, but we still try to take care of our customers

1. We ship FREE to international customers who buy over 350 USD of products from us, sometimes these purchases are already 40/ 50 even 60% off,
2. We do not make the shipping Charges, the Carrier does so the cost is what USPS charges, not us
3. Bear in mind that even with this Charge, paypal takes a fee from what you pay, so even then, we still have to offset the cost.....

As I have said before and will say again, if you thing designers are making a ton of money, just look at the amount who were in business two to three years ago and are not now..........

At Zam Barrett Dialogue we are committed to the strengthening of customer relations and offering the best level of customer care we can for 2018 and beyond

Below are several pertinent notices that we feel are important for you to know

New Policies
We have began to review and make changes to our store policies and the kind of services we will be offering to our costumers. Again, preferences will be given to customers based in the continental United state, largely because of the ease of offering certain services we want to offer

Shipping -
We will be offering free shipping on all orders above $150 USD to all US based customers. This will become standard, along with our longstanding policy of offering to international customers above $350 USD
We will continue to ship USPS priority Mail, but will offer an option to some customers both local and overseas of shipping FEDEX . Please note that this option will be on a REQUESTED BASIS and will not be free. It serves the purpose of ensuring some clients who are concerned about items being stick in customs or being lost can have a more secure option of shipping their item at a cost they are willing to pay.

Services -
We have been privately offering custom colors and fabrications of some of our items to special Clients over the past year. (For example, one customer ordered and received QUADRIVIUM PANTS IN MAROON, to match his Tri Zip Leather Jacket, Another Customer Ordered Tri Continental Slim Pants in Maroon, ordered Militia Combat Pants in Combat Green, and another ordered Raglan front leather shirt in Maroon) the possibility of having a standard item in a custom color way, is a service we will make more available to our customers.

We will also be offering the option of alteration to the length of Pants inseam for our customers, For example I the inseam of a pants is 36” and you are 32” inseam, upon purchase you can request the shortening of the inseam. OUR ONLY ADVICE is that in such a case, please check with us to ensure the measurements are exactly what you need, because Items altered as per request of the customer WILL NOT be returnable.

Sizing -
We are completely changing our sizing system based on the research we have done, to meet the needs of he Customers.
Our previous sizing system was 44/ 46/ 48/ 50/ 52 /(54) with 48 being our median size.
Our new sizing system for Spring 2018 will be (44) / 46/ 48/ 50/ 52/ 54 (56)
50 will become our new median size and up to size 54 will be standard offering with 44 and 56 being sizes we offer in select styles
We will also be offering the product with both American and European sizing as standard on the product


THE SPRING 2018 Collection
For Spring 2018, we will be relapsed FOUR Capsule collections for men, based on four different themes. We will be releasing a capsule every 3 -4 weeks beginning the last week of January, and into March
the CAPSULES are as followed

1. Artisanal Corporate –
this will be a small collection of Blazers, Coats, pants, shirts, vest, suspenders, neckties etc., all geared towards an artisanal customers need for item’s for professional purposes. The customer will have all these garments available, but made with a decidedly artisanal spirit to them

2. Re-VIEW |N| ReVISE – M
this segment, while not limited to, will largely concentrate on category M items. While items like M-1 , etc will remain untouched. Almost all our CORE offerings, like DNA Jeans, Like Soft J’s will be completely redesigned and updated. Look out for new ways we will reinterpret and update these classics while we continue to expand category M

3 . The Elaeatics
the Eleatics were a group of pre-socratic philosophers who set the tone for the development of the Greek philosophic tradition. We continue to mine their ideas and to try to interpret them on clothing form and to use these concepts as a source of wearable creative expression

4. Utilitarian Utopian -
We find that there is a growing need for Military inspired tech wear, and not the boring ill fitting type but a type of military tech wear that is at once refined and futuristic. We will be offering a capsule of ideas drawing on my background in designing both Modern and futurist Military apparel. I am exited to use the knowledge I have of designing these kinds of products but to do it in a way that does not lose the Artisanal Spirit that is central to what we do at Zam Barrett Dialogue - Zfactorie

Reposting the process

- THE MAKING OF THE MINIMALIST SLIM PANTS -
-- TRUE ARTISANAL WORK PROCESSES --

One of the great Joys of owning Zfactorie is that we can come to the workrooms on any given morning and decide to adjust/ rearrange the schedule as needed
We are working in the "between season" items now (along with 2 capsules) and on Friday I decided to give a real time coverage of preparing of a pair of minimalist slim pants sample in the New heavy Linen(s) that we offered the preorder on.

we came into the studio at 9:15 am and by 4:30 pm we had the original sample cut, made, dyed and photographed........not bad in terms of efficiency, something that will be a focus for the year 2018
Below, here is how we did it

We began cutting around 9:30, by 10:00 am the pants body and all is parts were completely cut and give to Master tailor and pants expert Mamoune for sewing
the fabric is 18 oz Heavy Linen in a 1.75" herringbone weave linen
(there will be two variants of the pants, the herringbone version and the Plain weave version)

The pants parts are overlocked (in the color thread that it will be dyed in) and sewing has began for the pants. two people are working on the pants, to finish the item in approximately half or 2/3rd the time it generally takes

The fly pieces are made and the waistband prepared while the body of the pants is being sewn. the pants is scheduled to be done at 12:30 noon

At 11:30 Am two separate dye baths are prepared so that as soon as the pants is completed it can be dyed.
the first dye bath is completely cold as we are dying natural fibers by way of cold process dyeing. a secret is to have a 2nd dye bath with a warm solution that will do a second stage of dyeing to ensure a rich color and depth. This is needed especially for heavy fabrics.

At 11:30 am two separate dye baths are prepared so that as soon as the pants is completed it can be dyed.
The first dye bath is completely cold as we are dying natural fibers by way of cold process dyeing. a secret is to have a 2nd dye bath with a warm solution that will do a second stage of dyeing to ensure a rich color and depth. This is needed especially for heavy fabrics.

At 1:15 pm after a small battle with myself and Mamoune for making a big mistake and delaying the pants by 1 hour the pants is finally completed and ready for dyeing.

at approximately 1:30 pm the pants is placed into the dye bath by our master colorist Mr Morris who does all the great dyework at Zfactorie. He has been our dye specialist for the last 5 Years and knows how to mox all the colors and how to speed up or slow down the dyeing process as needed. We save some time by adding extra dye and warming the water a little higher than normal with constant stirring of the solution for uniformity of color

At 3pm the pants is finished with the dye process and being cooled (the blurriness of the images is as a result of steam.
After the Pants is cooled, it is then rinsed to remove all excess dye and salt and then dried and made ready for photographing. all this was done by 4:30 pm

At 4:30 Here is the finished product. Done, done and done. Beautiful. We enjoyed the process and we hope you enjoyed our behind the scenes view of our processes.
The pants is now available for purchase on Zfactorie with shipping on Wednesday Jan 17th.

A Few Pertinent announcements:

Seven Months ago we moved our operations from the old Zfactorie location where we were for Six Years, to this New location we are now. While it will be a challenge in this winter weather. we have to announce to you that we are moving again at the beginning of February. We signed a three Year lease at the current location (a new building still under construction) and hoped that this would be the last move until we purchase a permanent home for Zfactorie (something that is a part of our objective.

However, an opportunity presented itself to us that is very good and we dont want to pas it up. We were offered bigger space with more amenities that will enable us to be more efficient in what we do, and also taking several things we do off site to be in one location.
The Newer space is in a less glamorous, but still very accessible part of Brooklyn and as such is less costly that our present space.
the bonus of it all is that it is within a 15 minute radius of where my kids attend school and that made it a deal too good to pass up.
So........we signed a lease for the new space, discussed breaking our current lease with our landlords and they are fine with it.

We will be moving somewhere between Feb 1st and 15th, Looking for good weather days and hoping to do it in a single day, so that there is minimal disruption to our already tight schedule.
I mist tell you I hate moving, the actual work involved, but its a little easier because we were never fully settled in this current space with items still in storage boxed from the last move.
We will keep all our clients here up to date. the new location will allow us to be more efficient, to take better care of our customers and to have a few events/ receptions for our New York Based customers
