Such good news! When I asked James on the last day at the old spot if Karlo would still be a part of the then unconfirmed reopening, he said no but then again, who knows? Maybe Faust does?

From what I've heard Karlo will be involved in some capacity, but the aesthetic overall will be quite different. Balmain and Givenchy are among the brands that they will carry, which undoubtedly gives a sense of the direction Atelier is heading.

Glad to hear something about Karlo. However; sad to hear that about direction but I guess it's necessary for a shop such as Atelier to balance out their passion buys and stay afloat. That news reminds me of what shopping at Patron of the New is like now with their buys of Balmain and En Noir. What else do they have? I think Rodarte, KTZ, Hood by Air? I miss the Number (N)ine shop Sad but it has to be done.

It's very difficult to keep a purist shop afloat these days. It's regrettable but understandable that stores need to do this.

One can always hope customers coming in to check out "givenchy, etc." may be introduced to these more niche labels represented on sz and develop a taste for them.

Does anyone have a sense of if it will return to its old location, or if not, where it will reopen?

Atelier is where I purchased my first Julius, thanks to their sizing me up and placing me in a glove-fitting rider. It holds a special place! I've since moved to Los Angeles, but missed knowing they were there (even from afar) and have been sad for my city friends that used to patronize it. The city will be better off with Atelier back, even if its original vision is somewhat altered in order to survive in the city. Many in NYC, from individuals to artists to entities, experience similar fates, but the city is better off for its survivalist spirit. And as Senpai said, the worlds that will collide as a result of this brand mixing is bound to yield some interesting energy.
