going to be in San Fran early August (9-13), looking for things to do...
Bars/Clubs/Parties? Restaurants? Other stores besides the Archives worth checking out? Anything else going on other than a few good exhibits at MOMA and De Young Galleries? Thanks.

              restaurants -

expensive - Cafe Jacqueline, Foreign Cinema, Zuni
              less expensive - Suppenkuche, Yamo
              best burritos - La Taqueria (Mission b/t 24th & 25th)

other cool places to check out are the Audium, also the Legion of Honor (not necessarily for the exhibits but for the breathtaking architecture and surrounding landscape)

Yerba Buena Contemporary Arts Center also sometimes has some interesting exhibits/films/etc.

              bars/clubs/parties - beats me...

i like tiki bar before atmosphere for club

pandora bar or yamasho for karaoke (playground notable mention)

toyose if you like korean. out of the way from downtown but worth it.

katana-ya for ramen. ryoko for sushi.

little delhi if you're into indian and spicy (not to be confused with new delhi which is located diagonally from little delhi and while it looks 10x better interior and is 2x as expensive it sucks 10x more)

Butter > Asiasf > Ruby Skye (super old but still relevant cos its sf)

philz coffee. i'm not a coffee drinker but everyone else is and they can't stop talking about it.

if you're by north beach, columbus cafe (love the creme brulee cheesecake). liguria bakery (grew up on this, sometimes blunt staff but i dun't care..just make sure you get there early cos if they sell out they don't close at 1pm they close at noon) <- can snack on while waiting for seats outside mama's

i like the academy of science // deYoung and its easy access to inner richmond district or inner sunset. nothing stellar food wise, but inner sunset is near san tung chinese restaurant, best fried wings. there's also izakaya sozai but its pretty small so if you don't mind a little wait..

                ETA
la boulange de cole (mushroom creme sandwich, french toast and the cauliflower soup + bakery goods)
                san sun in chinatown.

hmmm, I wouldn't recommend katana-ya for ramen or ryoko for sushi. they're definitely not bad, but also nothing special enough to visit if you're on vacation.

I completely forgot to mention my favorite Japanese lunch spot, Delica, in the Ferry building. Everything's to go, but you can get a delicious bento box for $10 and go sit outside in front of a lovely view of the bay. 100% approved by my very judgmental Japanese mother.

if it's good enough for your judgmental mother, it's definitely a must! thanks again genevieve.

I highly recommend taking the Bart up to Berkeley and walking maybe two blocks to ippuku

mochi wrapped around bacon was the highlight but almost everything was really good.

                            but yea

                            bacon mochi mochi bacon

(it's not sesame but crackled rice..if I remember correctly..with red bean paste and mochi..)

As for Ippuku, I've been really wanting to try it, especially the raw chicken.

In SF, two (I think) quintessential things to do are the Saturday Ferry Building Farmer's Market and Dolores Park on a nice weekend. The Farmer's Market is in a great location, is filled with people (tourists and locals alike) and has a lot of really good prepared food choices (my faves: 4505 breakfast sandwich and anything at Primavera). Gets really crowded, the earlier the better. Dolores Park is filled with hipsters, hippies, families, hash-brownie-sellers, dogs, and on and on. Pretty much everyone. It's an interesting place to relax and bring some food/drink with a great view of the city from the upper slope of the park. 18th St (bordering the park) offers plenty of food options to take (Bi-Rite market, Tartine bakery, pizza...). anyway, my two cents.
