This is a very fair comment but I feel like it's worth adding that there are a fair number of designers - including Ann Demeulemeester, Maurizio Amadei, Boris Bidjan Saberi, Rick Owens et alia - who have strong relationships with individual fabric manufacturers and design a lot of their own materials? I don't think this is a negligible percentage of all materials used either?

So who makes the trends? There are a few big syndicates of textile and material makers, who get together a year before the designers make collections, and decide what they should make for the next year. For example, the Paris textile show Premiere Vision that they do twice a year. University professors, cooks, and artists are contracted to Premiere Vision and come together to talk and brainstorm about things like where they vacationed over the last six months, what they think is visually attractive, what films they liked, what exhibitions were interesting. They talk about these things and put them up on the blackboard. They then organize these words into blocks and look for keywords within those blocks. Then they try to imagine particular colors from those blocks. In this process, the textile makers create trends as a "frame" for what to produce the next year. The textile makers make the frame, and within that frame, fashion designers go and purchase fabric from those manufacturers and then design trends that reflect their individual personalities. So designers design trends, but fabric manufacturers make the trends.

Can we also ban the word "heritage"? As in "heritage brands."

They’re timeless, and the quality is incomparable. Sure, Open since May, R.A.D. deals in handmade, artisanal pieces meant to last a lifetime. These unisex boots, designed by Maurizio Amadei, were handcrafted by a cobbler in Florence. Especially with this designer, you’re paying for the quality and intensity of the labour. Slow food is all the rage, why not slow fashion?

I can't stand the word "hashtag". Of course it's applied to more than just fashion, which makes me hate it all the more.

Hashtag this, hashtag, that. Every goddamn thing nowadays has a "hashtag" in front of it.
Like anybody really cares about what anybody posts, anyway.

You can stick your hashtag in your butt.

A properly utilized hashtag can be awesome and funny, serving as a meta-topic enriching quirky commentary. The problem is people's insipid use of them. My latest - #yourhashtagisstupid

^ Whoever put that image together left off the quotation mark at the end. Every time that version of it is reproduced (and I'm sure there are many), pedants everywhere are left slightly irritated. Perhaps they (ok, we, let's be real here) deserve it, though.

                                Haha, quite possibly.

Also, I can't wrap my head around the word "fora" as a plural for "forum".
Every time I see it, I think flora, fauna, fora. Nope. No can do.
